Hi, have seen the above event in the mags and wondered if anyone had done it.

It looks like a fun event but at £20 per person seems a little high compared to others. I know its for a good cause but I don't think any of the entry money goes to the charity, as you have to raise £50 as well. (can't see anything on the website or on the application form) Therefore, it seems a bit steep at £40 per mini (based on 2 adults) compared to other charity events like L2B which is only £14 per car and you get a lovely pack including a t-shirt.

its definately worth going, dont worry about the price as more money goes to the childrens hospice - the run even goes through the hospice and its great to see where the money goes. the reason l2b is cheap is because they have big sponsors, and large amount of club funds, the North Devon Grand Tour is organised by quite literally a few people who put loads of time and effort into it, it costs more because they cant afford to subsidise anything.
Its hard to explain how good the event is unless you actually go, everyone is there for fun, and ultimately to help the hospice out.

I'm with redhotmini on this one!!!

If you only do one mini event a year, make sure it's the Grand Tour!!!!! It may not be the biggest but it sure is the BEST!!!

exactly. the amount of money it costs to get the parking places on the three runs, council admin fees etc it makes it all worth it though, i dont think there is any other run that takes out 300+ minis and bike marshals on a bank holiday weekend, in an unbroken convoy, raises £30k + every year and is completely stress free!

I think the entrance fee is fair as things have to be paid for but one thing that isn't paid for is the Marshalls theyall help out for nothing (I know as I do it) and I can quite happily say that noe of them would want paying.

TH LGT can not be compared to L2B in anyway in my opinion the LGT beats L2B by milesyes there are more cars on L2B but when you leave Crystal Palce moore often then not you won't see another Mni until you get to Brighton but on the LGT we travel in Convoy and there are hundrens/thousends of people lining the streets waving cheering and giving money to the collection buckets. I have only done L2B once and don't think I will do it again but the LGT I will do for as long as I can it is addictive you do not stop smiling all weekend.

DowntonMini - as a marshall do you know what happens if my car is 2 low to get into certain places? after doing it in my mates mini this year we noticed spec in fremington that wood had been put down, but still i think mine would struggle in some places. think im going to have to raise it up for the tour every year :geek:

mine catches on the way into lee abbey as well, its lowered as well. but it only caught on one or two of the bumps, the rest were ok. felt completely knackered monday night, you never stop when you're marshaling, though its got to be one of the best jobs ive volunteered for as you get to see every single mini, and driving through the towns and villages creating loads of noise to get everyone out on the streets is a laugh. going through the hospice, and the last corner before stopping at ilfracombe bought a tear to my eye, the crowds cheering and waving were immense, biggest crowd ive seen there.

definately going again next year, l2b is a great run too, but the whole atmosphere of the grand tour makes the l2b seem insignificant.

After helping out as a marshall for the last couple of years, I've decided to leave the Mini at home this year & become a motorbike marshall.
Think it will be interesting to see the LGT from a different view. :D
