Rip the freeking guys hand off... and if you don't I will.... 300 for an engine & 5spd box (even if broken) is a steal...

I agree with this.My answer is, if you want 5 gears in a mini, do a K series, Vauxhall or Vtech conversion, it'll work out cheaper and more reliable in the end...
It is what I did.
K power all the way!

Which would really be of no use buying, since as I understand it really this is all about highway driving. Therefor you are looking at the effect of an overdrive. As far as I know the KAD has a 1:1 ratio for 5th. You can just use your power curve more and therefor be faster and you could of course use it to drive more economicaly (which is not too wrong with nowadays fuel prices).stuart gurr doesnt do 5/6 speed boxes anymore
the only reliable 5 speed box will probably be the kad one, but its not a road going unit as i think its dog engagement and is a wedge of cash.
Anyways last I checked there was not a single reliable 5 speed overdrive box for the classic Mini. I was looking into this as I wanted one for my project (I like fast top speeds). But so far your best bet for good highway driving is large wheels, low differential and a normal for speed or for the nice touch the 5 speed KAD box.
