hey i've just brought a "mini city e" 1988 998cc model, it hasnt been started in 4 years, has anyone got any points on getting it to start befor i pick it up???

new petrol, and charged battery, remove the plugs and check, and dizzy cap and check... start !

Check the clutch can be used, mite be seised, and if the hand break has been left on that it is not seised.
check there is enough oil and water in too, you dont want to start a dry engine if it has been leaking...
and obvosily do a full service as soon as you can,

Remove the plugs, and squirt some oil down there as that engine is going to be severely dry with standing for 4 years. Also turn over with the HT lead not connected to get some oil up top.
Check all the serviceable items and don't forget to check it has enough oil and water.
Then just start, after reconnecting the HT lead

might be an idea to whip the plugs out and turn it over with them out before you start it, to make sure you get oil pressure (the oil light should go out after a few seconds of cranking on a good battery).

Don't crank it with the HT lead disconnected, do it with the LT lead disconnected. A lot safer and uses less battery juice up, especially when done without the plugs in place as Mini's 84 says.
