Hi,
Safety jack up and support the fron t of your Min.
Select reverse using your normal gear stick
Using a suitable reaction lever place in the gap between the diff housing and the selector linkage (support) then using your second hand to hold a suitable (correct diameter and about 2" - 50mm long) place in the end of the forward roll pin (there are two)
Using your third hand hold a hammer in the correct manner and hit the end of the roll pin punch (after making sure you have no body parts, ie fingers etc in the way of the hammer)
This should knock the roll pin out of the selector shaft......

Now using a thin screwdriver prise out the old seal

Check for the alluminium support piece, which is a ring of turned ally bar to support the selector shaft.

If it is there (I suspect you haven't got one, or it's worn or it's the old plastic type) then renew it.
now carefully re-fit the new seal using a deep socket of the correct diameter holding it all square and gently "tap" with a hammer, making sure that the seal is flush or a couple of mm beleow flush, fit the new bellows and then re-fit the selector, lower car and test.

You will need to use a reaction bar to avoid damage to the gearbox internal selector.
You do NOT need 3 hands but you will have to "juggle" yourself a bit to do the job.

You should now have a leak free (ish) Mini..... subject to other leakage issues of course :D

Regards Martin

Suggestion - Replace roll pin with Nylon nut to avoid future pin getting out problems.

Ask your techie questions on the forum so others can use the search button if they have similar problems. Also see what's pinned to the front of this section - but always feel free to ask if you're not 100% certain.

Also drain your oil before you remove any seals from the gearbox!
