My friend's MINI has 3 small dents in the roof, about 5 cm in diameter. The MINI garage said he needs a new roof which will cost £1300! This seems extrotionate. Any advice would be very welcome. There is no paint damage. Thanks

DONT use filler on a mini roof.
Infact, Dont use filler anywhere on a mini except maybe the front wings and the rear end...

As the roof flexes, the filler will crack...

Drop your roof lining out, and with a rubber mallet, tap the dents back out from the inside. It takes some time, but ive got mine back to normal now.

never done this but cant see it would do any harm, why not try a household plunger, like the ones for kitchen sink? see if they pull out?

i have to say i disagree with your comments on filler..... there is nothing wrong with it if ued properly. it has a bad name because of cowboys who use it for structural repairs...how are you supposed to get rid of all the little dings and dents that you can't pull out if you don't use filler?

i agree with Clubmankatie. Filler is fine provided it is applied to clean metal. All this nonsense about it being porous and absorbing water is false too. As long as it is applied to clean, rust free metal, has been mixed properly and allowed to go fully hard it can be used to shape bodywork, fill small indentations and scuffs, scratches etc.

Depending on how big the dents are on your roof then filler is an option, but you will need to strip the roof around the dents to bare metal using a DA sander or similar, fill then prime and spray the roof again.

Or see if you can have them pulled/knocked out.

you can get people like dent master to pull them out, i've heard good things about them, and they'll be a lot cheaper than changing, or even spraying your roof.
if you dont have a dent master near you, go to a couple of franchised dealers (any make will do), and ask who does all the little dings on their cars.
