Hey,

I need to fit a wing mounted aerial to my restoration but im lazy and i want the electric ones (that come up and down automatically)

Has anyone fitted one? if so where can i find them?

Cheers,

Mattlav

Ebay, halfords, any car audio site to be honest.

Sometimes with electric aerials, they sit quite low inside the wing so wheel clearance is reduced.

Might want to measure how much clearance you have between the aerial mount and the wheel, and see if you can find the maximum travel for said wheel, work out how much space you have, and try finding a unit that will fit in there, with as much extra space as possible.

Must say I have been tempted with one of these, but never got round to it.

I had one of the stadarded Halford electric arials fitted on the wing, Went over a pot whole one day and it smacked the wheel! Luckaly it didnt damage the wing too much (Only had to bend the metal around the hole so it was level again), but the arial is pretty nackered lol

So, if you do fit one, makes sure the wheels can't catch it.

This was with 12" wheels by the way, with 13's id have thought it would be even worse >_<

Shame really, it was much nicer than the rubber thing i have now!

I fitted an electric aerial today. It was bought from Halfords for £11.24. Works well and gets perfect reception.

I have 13x6 sportspack wheels and there is no problem with clearance, loads of room.

I can take some pictures and measure the clearance if you want.

Let me know and I’ll post some up for you.

Here's the pictures...

I took some quick pictures when I was fitting the aerial.

Posted Image

The old aerial is still in the way and I haven’t put the bracket on yet but you get the idea. I turned the base sideways so that it was further from the wheel.

I can take some clearer pictures if you need them or measure the overall length so you can compare if you go to buy one.
