Bit of a thread revival!  I have just attempted to install an electric aerial in my mini.  I am on 12" wheels and standard ride height. I bought an electric aerial from ebay for about £15, as halfords dont stock them anymore and maplin doesnt exist.  So i found that it does fit, but only leaves 1cm of clearance, which i thought if i hit a pothole, there would be a risk of damage (as another poster mentioned). i found that you can open the mechanism up, remove the aluminium tube (where the aerial sits when retracted) and  i cut about 5cm off the buttom (to roughly match the length of the original manual one).  this allows the aerial to fit with lots of clearance from the wheel.  The only downside is that the aerial protrudes from the holder by about 2-3cm when retracted.  Its no biggy to me though.
