Im currently soundproofing out my mini as during my rebuild i removed it all. I brought a box of Dynamat Extreme which contains nine 18"x32" sheets.

Last weekend I spent laying the 36sq ft of Dynamat on the floor and bulk head. I have only put one layer down and only have one sheet left! I still have both doors, rear quarter panels, roof and the rear seat - back and bottom panels. Oh yeh and not to forget the boot.

One box cost around 150quid mark. Its not cheap but it is defiantly the best sound deadening material around and has made such a difference to road noise and the ICE.

There is only one bad bad point and that is heavy at 10kg per box!! :D

I have already orderd my second box for this weekend. :w00t:

One more point that I realised when researching, which is the best sound proofing material to use I found a lot of people were saying that "the cheaper products are just as good, as long as you put down two layers" this is pointless as doing this costs about the same as putting down one layer of Dynamat plus it is heavier and possibly not as good.

Also be very careful what you put on the underside of the bonnet as your engine obviously gets very HOT. The engine could heat up the flashing tape, make it go soft and it may fall off the bonnet and onto your engine and if it gets on your exhaust manifold you will have a fire on your hands. All that work plus your car going up in smoke. DOH!!

During my weekend of sound deadening I noticed how the cross beam under the drivers and passenger seats is hollow, and when tapped very echoie.

Therefore I have decided to blank off the several holes and fill it full of household expanding foam this weekend, is there any reason I should not do this?

Yes It will cause problems if i ever need to replace a sill or weld near the cross beams proximity with the risk of a fire, but im sure filling it would reduce road noise considerably as its currently acting like a amplifier.

Any suggestions???

Wouldnt bother with the foam. I simply covered mine in sound deadening and it sounds as dull as anything now! >_<
