Hi guys,

I'm trying to decide how to fit new perspex windows in fibreglass doors (non sliding). It would be great if anyone handed me suggestions on how to fit, including some pics of the results.

Thanks for the help!

Br,

Nick

There are a few ways to do it;

You can fit them to the outside of the door frame, gives a very racy look.

Fit them into the normal window aperture, put a spacer block between the perspex and outer door lip and use self tappers or fancy button head fixings. For the inside, an offcut of old door rubber fits the gap nicely.

Not done mine yet as the doors are still at the painters but I'll have pictures in a couple of weeks.

Les.

I made some simple brackets from L shaped metal pieces, bonded and screwed these around the inside of the frame and riveted the polycarbonate to them.

You can see some pictures at the end of my old project post:

If you're really using perspex, don't use rivets. They'll probably shatter the windows.

Thanks Guys,

I think the're both good solutions! Would love to see a picture of the window bolted to the outside, so I can decide what to do!

Les, cool bonnet by the way!

BR,

Nick

Hi Les,

Just wondering if you finished the fixings of your windows yet? Any pictures to show the result?

Thanks,

Nick

Thanks for your help! Could be solution too, although I'm afraid one of the bolts could crack the window, the paint or even the fibre glass door.....

by the way: is this your mini. Was wondering what size mirrors are fitted to this car!?! Any idea?

Thanks,

Nick

Hi
If you buy Polycarbonate windows, not Perspex, you won't have the problem of cracking. Perspex shatters into sharp splinters, polycarb can be folded on itself and it won't crack.
We manufacture Polycarb windows, take a look at ACW Motorsport Plastics (www.acwmotorsportplastics.co.uk)
Our Mini kit is £159.99. That includes 2 front windows, both WITH sliders, 2 rear quarters and 1 rear window. We can do bronze tinted rear quarters and rear window for an extra £20.
Have a look at the 'Why Polycarb' page if you don't believe me how strong it is! >_< I was the one who tested it in the vice and it even amazed me something drastic didn't happen >_<

With mine i ran a seam of sealant all the way round the inside of the door loop, pushed the polycarb in place and clamped it down.

Then i added a few screws along the base of the window just as a bit of extra strenght...
