Hi Kimberley, it was painted using the left over paint from the Rock FM thundertruck. I can enquire. Leave it with me I'll get back to yer!
I quite like it! That's why I am going to stick to a similar colour. Stay tuned for Photoshopped!

Aww thanks that would be great, I love it, it's exactly what I've been trying to describe to Lee for ages. Let me know if you manage to find the paint code, would be great if you could >_<

So a bit of an update for you now. Well more of a rust showcase really. Spent most of today (rain permitting) doing the odd removal/inspection.

DSC00961.jpg

It isn't in bad nick at all considering she's 18yrs. Should just need a refurb, thoroughly inspected with screwdriver and nothing poked through. Will go round with a wire brush and then sand/treat/paint later.

DSC00955.jpg

Had to grind off a nut. >_< I tried all my patience to get this off and would not budge. It was siezed on to the thread.

DSC00957.jpg

These are in good shape too, shame I'm not planning to keep them. Would it be better for me to upgrade if I'm scouting for a 1275+?

DSC00960.jpg

Engine removed from subby. Tried a little degreaser to see what would come up. Looks like its stepping back in time! Makes me wonder about keeping it...

DSC00973.jpg

One perished mount. The other is in good condition, how strange..
DSC00964.jpg

More poking done, this time on scuttle...
DSC00965.jpg

DSC00976.jpg

Our Charlie making sure I got his good side. :P

Also removed;

Brake servo
Clutch reservoir (pig)
Pedals
Steering rack and pinion.
Doors

Next= Rear subframe, fuel and brake lines. Anything else I find.

There's a 998 complete with gearbox if anyone is interested...?

Linky to Ebay

It has only done 65,000 miles!

Yeah, she understands why I'm selling it. I'm going for a 1275+. My first mini was a 998, and I soon got bored of its lack of pull.

Just thought I would show you the rough state the rear shocks were in. Glad I'm doing a resto when I see things like this!

From then, the rear subby was removed and stripped.

Spent the weekend getting the B!tchumen off...managed to fill three of these, and it's suprisingly heavy

Now managed to strip the paint and stonechip off the front subby, and was hoping to cure the rust. Bought a 1ltr bottle of Hammerite rust remover and relaised that's not the route to go down! Anyone any suggestions, on best methods for subby's?

Hi there - noticed your questions regarding the brake calipers.

The standard 8.4" setup (which is what you have) was fitted across the whole range from 1984 onwards and will be more than adequate, be it on a little 850cc or a 1460cc.

They'll be fine.

Thanks Retro. Will they fit in 10's? In case I decide to upgrade to a downsize? :D In that case, its a refurb for them! I think I need to unstick the pistons

Generally no,

You'd want 7.5" Cooper S brakes for 10's or one of the aftermarket "fixes".

Some 10's will fit with 8.4's but are likely to have a less than ideal offset, don't ask me which ones.

Hi Stupot,

A quick tip is that white spirit will easily clean off all the residue from the bitumen on the floor. As for the subby's, I'm planning on getting mine blasted & powder coated.

Regards

Steve

Thanks Steve,

I had thought about sandblasting the subby's. I am not sure if there is anywhere local though. I think I will look into it, and find out prices etc. Thing is, I have spent a while stripping off the paint now.

As for the white spirit, I have some in so I will give it a bash tonight. Cheers!

Have a look at Carboy001- his rebuild thread. (page 6) He got some done in Warrington, not too far from you. Said it cost him £80. I'm sure if you PM him he could give you the address.

Cheers

Steve
