Hi, im Alex, 17, from the West Midlands. Been mad about Minis since i was little and finally the time has come to purchase. Found a Mini for sale down the road in stourbridge which im going to look at tomorrow morning with my Dad.

Its a 1982 Mini City E with 48,000 miles on the clock. Its undergone a restoration two years ago where the panels that needed replacing where done so its completly rust free apparently. With a respray in a metallic blue it looks great in my opinion.
The guy is a mechanic so its been well looked after and hes offered to put 12 months MOT upon purchase. So fingers crossed it will be the real deal.
Going with the buyers guide from the most recent addition of the Mini magazine and all the advice iv been reading up on here.

So basiclly hi and hopefully tomorrow i will be the proud owner of my first car and my first Mini.

Alex.

Hello again. Just a little update on the Mini Hunt...Went to look the mini today and was dissapointed with a few things. Firstly by the overall quality of the respray. We were also unable to determin the quality of the floor pan repairs which had been made since we couldnt get a good look under the car, im sure they were fine.
Although it was pretty much rust free, there are just too many question marks but could easily make a beautiful mini for someone which the ability to touch up and with mechanical knowledge.

Anywayyyy, im still on the hunt for my first mini and have stumbled across a local mini specalist which is right round the corner hidden and with no local advertising. Even my dad didnt know it was there and has lived in the area all his life.

Also if anyone has/knows of any Minis for sale in a rust free condition which a 998cc engine then feel free to message me with details. Budget is around £1500-1700. Ideally in the West Midlands/Birmingham area.

Thanks..Alex.

Hard luck, but well done for not rushing to buy the first mini you see! There'll be the right one for you along in a little while. Have you checked out the buying guides on here? Ones like this. Good hunting!

Yup, as said- well done for not buying the first one you looked at! (we've all done it in the past...)

I really, really trust my instinct when buying cars. If it feels right and most things check out ok- go for it! Trust your gut reaction >_<

Mmm, always disappointing when they're not quite what you are looking for, like you say someone with the right skills and/or cash might well end up with it. And as everyone else has said, take your time and find the perfect mini for you. When you do it will be well worth the wait!

Good luck with your hunt (the mini specialist you found sounds hopeful too >_<)

Keep us posted!

Hello again, thanks for all the replys.

Got an appointment to view some of the Minis this guy has got for sale tomorrow so looking forward to it. Got our eyes on a yellow Austin Mini 1990 which has been restored to "very high standard" by an older gentleman who has previous Mini restoration experience. Unlike the last one, i see this as more of a blank canvas to add my own special touches to make it my own mini.

Il update again tomorrow.

Many thanks...Alex

Biiiiig update today. Just got back from seeing the Mini and it was spotless. Primrose yellow paintwork is in perfect condition, no rust to speak off at all. Engine starts first time and runs like a dream.

Only one slight issue with the gear selection being stiff. The guy said hed book it into to a garage for it to be sorted for when he gets back off a trip. May need bleeding a few more times since its had a new master cylinder upon restoration or if not he said he would be happy to fit a new clutch if necessary. Also the wipers are very slow so hes thrown in a brand new wiperblade motor for free. Which is good. For no extra cost

Small deposit has been made subject to the gear selection/clutch being fine after its been looked at.

So this next two weeks i have to wait will be the slowest two weeks ever. Still on the look out in the mean time tho.

Going to the Mini show on the weekend to search for one white minilites for wheel inpiration.

Cheers. Alex

Sounds as if the owner is being reasonable without offering the moon (over-anxious to please is always a bad sign)
and you're not parting with all the dosh until you get what you want.

Also the wipers are very slow so hes thrown in a brand new wiperblade motor for free

Hmmm. I might ask him to put the new motor in anyway.
Did you haggle downwards on price, or accept the asking price and haggle upwards on extras??
Well done! ;)
