Revised the switch panel i made, and mounted the only three switches i'll have on the whole car, together with the FIA cut-off switch
Also picked the engine up from Rob Walker finally, all the work is finished.
Ended up boring it out to 1293cc and putting in new 7cc dished pistons. Will be sending the head off this week to have the combustion chambers enlarged and the valve seats changed for unleaded ones, ready for some boost!
Will hopefully drop this in this weekend

Either way im happy though as everything fits properly! Had my mate Annabel come over yesterday and give me a hand as i didn't fancy shoehorning it in on my own, and after a couple of hours of bolting the head and manifolds on it dropped in! Im was very lucky with my homemade actuator mount, as the actuator just clears the engine steady mount by the master cylinders by about 10mm.
I also need to drill and tap the intake manifold for vacuum take offs for the dumpvalve, megajolt and boost gauge.
Hopefully next weekend i can do these little niggly bits and then fully connect up everything and start wiring in the megajolt, EDIS and colipack.

Long Long Long overdue update!
Will keep it brief and mainly pics, but done a fair bit!
We have moved house (back in March) so there was a mad rush to get the windows in, all body panels fixed and all seals on to transport the Mini to the new place (as typically in March it was raining!)
First thing I did over here at the new place was to reinforce the seat mount bars with some tubing in the centres, just to prevent any possible flex
Next thing was to make some floor plates, as the floor was already getting damaged from climbing in and out
Painted and fitted the arches with some sealing strips and also the rear plate with LED bolts
Latest thing is i've mounted the intercooler and loosely plumbed it in to check clearances. Looks like I need a new Bonnet with a Slight Bulge so that's on order.

So because of the vast amounts of intercooler piping I have had to re-think my current bonnet, being that it now doesn't fit. Originally planned to cut a clearance hole in my existing bonnet and fibre-glass a small bulge in there, but my fibre-glass skills are limited to say the least so have bitten the bullet and bought a 16v KAD bonnet.
Gives perfect clearance, looks mean and hints that there is something a little different under the bonnet
Also mounted the digi dash on the column support, simple and effective.
Exhaust also turned up last week, 3" fletcher

Done a little bit more to her
Some additional gauges added, carbon door cards fitted, horn fitted and front numberplate fitted. New steering wheel fitted also, had a custom made boss made up for me at work for beer money!
Also mapped the megajolt, done a basic map to start with just to get me going, once ive put a few miles on her i'll re-assess/get it setup professionally.
She fires up and runs though! fired first turn of the key! idles smoothly, good oil pressure, revs freely. So chuffed! Just a few last bits to button up and i'll book the MOT. (that clunking noise in the video was the flywheel hitting one of the engine mount bolts that goes through the clutch cover (wok), it was ever so slightly too long. Been sorted now)

So almost 5 years later i have made a very small amount of progress!
Between buying a house and renovating it, to changing jobs as well as starting a company it's fair to say the mini took a bit of a back seat!
Anyway, back in January i bought a L2B ticket in the hope that it would force me to get her done, however, being that it's next weekend and she still has no MOT it's not going to happen. It has forced me to spend some time on her though and it's getting very close now!
So i sent the car off to Downton Engineering to have the engine looked over as well as the suspension and steering geometry aligned, together with a few other things. After re-plumbing the carb and fiddling with the fuelling i think i've got her running ok now, certainly well enough to drive to the MOT (although god knows what the emissions will be like).
So recently i've spent some time tying up all the loose ends. I ripped out the flexible internal fuel lines i originally put in and replaced with solid lines throughout, as the fuel was permeating the lines and making the cabin stink of fuel. (sorry i don't have any pics as i think i was too pissed off doing it at the time!). Other bits done recently were:
- Fit speedo cable adapter to convert drive to the Acewell Digidash
- re-fit headlining
- Re-mount the removeable front with new fixings
- Change the map in the megajolt for a slightly tamer one for running in.
- All new vacuum hoses and take-offs as previous ones were not routed well and had started to break under fatigue.
My latest job has been to re-do the fuel tank, pump and filter setup in the boot as it had only really been put in temporarily before just to allow the car to run. The original setup looked like this:
I have ripped all that out to make some new fabricated rails for the tank to sit on. Started by drilling through the seat back and screwing a piece of flat steel bar through. I have welded the screws to the plate so they are captive allowing me to tighten the nuts from inside the cabin.
I then cut some 25mm SQ steel box with slightly angled end to extend out into boot and welded to the plate
I Then cut a small piece of box, capped off one end. Drilled through and welded a nut on the inside to allow a rubber mount to be screwed in
This was then welded to the end of the long box section in the boot
And finally a second one was made to provide a platform for the tank
The fuel filter and pump have also now been re-mounted with sturdy anti-vibration mounts to try and cut down on the annoying drone that comes from the pump. you can just see in this pic i think
So that's where i'm up to. I've had one of our fabrication suppliers at work make me some bits to finish this off. They are making me two straps to hold the tank in place. These will have some foam strips fixed to the inside (as well as under the tank).
And also a filler cap mounting plate/drip tray. This will be mounted underneath the parcel shelf in the boot with a filler cap fitted into it. I'll put some filler hose between the cap and the tank inlet to connect it.
Finally i had them make a plate up for the carb to correctly fit the throttle and choke cables as my previous bodged method was awful and didn't really work, so this should do the trick nicely
So a bit of a long post, but what do you expect after 5 years! Stay tuned as hopefully this thing will finally be finished soon!

There has been a slight development on the photobucket front in the past year... 🙄 try switching hosts as we would love to see the pictures! 😍So almost 5 years later i have made a very small amount of progress!
