Hi all i have carbon doors and was fitting plexie glass in the front doors until someone in the motor trade said its illegal to use it on the road because it scratches easily.
can anyone shed some light on this matter, as i aim to drive it on the road as well as track days.
and i know other have gone down this road before me. :tech support:

I don't want to use glass if i don't need to ,as it takes away the point of carbon doors, and other weight saving ideas.

It is legal to have plastic door windows, you can even have a plastic windscreen by law.

what a strange sentence....yes there legal

plastic4performance do good kits, some of there stuff's anti scratch too, either than or get a film over the top of them also

I have already got some Plexie glass, and its treated both sides for U.V. so I am happy to fit them now.
I will tell the muppet that his advice is wrong.

Safety Glass Application:

All Vehicles Method of Inspection Required Standard Check that all windscreens, windows, and side screens are securely attached to the vehicle and are constructed from approved materials.

Note 1: “safety glass” means glass so constructed or treated that if fractured it does not fly into fragments likely to cause severe cuts.

Note 2: “safety glazing” means material (other than glass) which is so constructed or treated that if fractured it does not fly into fragments likely to cause severe cuts.

Note 3: safety glass and safety glazing conforming to the appropriate European standards will bear the relevant marking applied by the manufacturer. ECE Regulation 43 EEC Directive 92/22

Note 4: A greater opacity is permitted in the area of the windscreen below the “windscreen horizontal plane” and the area considered being above the normal field of view.

1. Windscreens, windows and side-screens where fitted must be securely attached to the vehicle.

2. Windscreens and windows wholly or partly on either side of the drivers seat must be made of safety glass to a recognised standard, or an equivalent standard.

3. All other windows (including sunroofs and removable glass panels) and side-screens must be made of safety glass to a recognised standard, an equivalent standard, or from safety glazing (not applicable to armoured vehicles).

4. All windows made of safety glass must bear the relevant approval marking applied by the manufacturer (not applicable to armoured vehicles).

5. Windscreens and windows wholly or partly on either side of the drivers seat must allow a visual transmission of at least 70%, or 60% in the case of an armoured vehicle (see note 4).

Legal yes, Without E mark you could be required to provide evidence that it will not shatter into large pieces likely to cause severe lacerations.
