Can anyone help....

my beautiful car has devleoped a serious case of diahorrea, everytime i drive the car, oil spews out from somewhere?? Its only happened for a couple of days

It doesnt happen immediately but after about five miles, or a sooner if I give it high revs. It doesnt lose all of its oil just enough to coat everything under the bonnet and to leave a little pool when parked.

it starts to smoke from around the cap and leaks into the car - not good as drivers window doesnt go down far!!

so any helpers? any idea why or even where it would be blowing oil out of?

a friend of mine had this problem on his spi cooper. turned out to be a thin pipe coming from the oil filter into the block, it was leaking at the block end and just needed tightening up with a spanner. of course it could be something else entirely. try running the engine on the drive with a white piece of paper under the car to see if you can trace the leak.

the oil will get thinner as the engine warms up hence the leaking after you have driven off so let the engine warm up fully before the paper test.

good luck, hopefully the guys on here can help you more

ps is the oil filter tight enough? rocker cover gasket leak?

oh right, it is also blowing out of the filler cap though - oil always ends up all over the top of the rocker cover and front of the engine.

The only real way to find a oil leak is too wash your engine down using a oil remover spray!! ( dont know what thats called in english, only german ) makes sure its clean all over and underneath aswell...

The go for a short drive, go home and put a bit of cardboard under the car!! the you will see were it is dripping, and try to follow it up!!

Minis are famous for leaking oil, i got to that stage of accepting it until Mr police banged on my door, pointing at the stains all over the road... :fear:

its not leaking oil - it is actually throwing it out!

If it is pushing it out of the dipstick and rocker cover it means your getting too much crankcase pressure. It can be worn big end bearings, piston rings.

Check all the breathers and hoses. The 998 has only one on the tappet chest, non 'S' 1275 has two, one on the flywheel and one on the timing chain cover. Both use the filler cap as a breather too. If these are clear then I'm afraid your engine is in trouble, maybe broken rings, holed pistons??? as the crankcase pressures may be excessively high which is blowing the oil out of the engine

Carry out a compression test and if you can get it to a garage with the gear, a leakdown test.
