I've found a 1973 saloon in an outbuilding at a local garage.
The proprietor would like rid of it... and I'd quite like to take it off his hands.

It's been sat for five years, so presumably a non-starter!
Working on the assumption that the engine will need a serious overhaul.
But there is an engine in there.

There is no glass.
The boot floor has been (badly) patched and I only had one minute to look it over otherwise (wife was yelling for me to hurry up!)

What should I do? Make him a £100 offer?
(Oh and I have nowhere to store it - we'll work on that problem later!! :- )

With the price of minis at the moment its probably worth about £300 :- all depends on how solid it is really mate.

a 73 mini isn't worth much

i would go with £100 as it's only likely to cost him money to get rid of it

Righty.. Cheers guys. I'll see what happens later today then!
I might even try £50 and be prepared to go to £100.

The thing about a 73 is that it's really old, but not quite old enough. [for tax exemption that is]

Now, where will I put it... Hmm.

I don't think so in this case:

Date of Liability 01 04 1996
Date of First Registration 06 11 1973
Year of Manufacture Not Available
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 998CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Petrol
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour RED
Vehicle Type Approval null
This vehicle can be licensed at a DVLA Local Office without the V5C Registration Certificate
The information contained on this page is correct at the time of enquiry.
Vehicle Excise Duty Rate for vehicle
6 Months Rate £68.75
12 Months Rate £125.00

It's been off the road for 13 years!!

you may be able to argue the case,
get a heratige cert,
they do it from when the car was made......not when it was registered.....if that makes sense

Will this one be ready in time for your first born to drive? :-

For £100, go for it, especially if you can get it tax exempt
Let me know what you decide to do with the engine as im after one to rebuild.
