Hi all
998 A+ engine.
Still having severe overheating problems.
All water stuff- stat, pump etc replaced. New rad.
Head gasket done and compression check is in the green on my gunsons gauge.
Timing is a bit out - slighly below the jaggedy marks on the timing marks.
On tickover on teh drive , goes to N fairly quickly and then sits there OK, but gets very hot quickly when under way. Gets to the top of the temp gauge in about 3 miles.
Is my engine knackered or have I forgotten something?
ANY ideas welcome!!
thanks all
cheers
colin

set the timing properly and check the carb settings, this should improve things if you have checked everything else!

Make sure your fan is sucking and not blowing... to be honest, though, sounds like your guage is dodgey / wrong one.

After guage has hit high feel around under bonnet. Do hoses, rad top feel extreamly hot. VERY VERY carefully start to release rad cap, if no hissing and bubbling carry on ONLY TO FIRST CATCH.

I had same problem but found that i could remove the cap completly after a 15 min run with guage uo in red. Dipped water with a meat thermometer and only read 77 deg c. Change sender unit and all hunky dory. Never goes above 1/3 now, even in traffic and/or a good ragging.

I had the same problem, and it turned out to be a seized thermostat, a rad full of limescale, (and no water! :nugget: ).

Here's a few more suggestions.
