So i picked up my mini (1983 Mini Mayfair) on friday and trailered it back to the garage. Have been in the garage all weekend setting it up and cleaning it out ready to start workin on the thing. Dropped out the rear subframe yesterday with little resistance other than a rounded bolt that ended up being hack saw off.

going to chop the back end out over the week and start mocking up a frame with copper pipe. once the back end has been chopped out it is going to be sent round to a mates to be soda blasted ! the shell as a whole looks in really good solid condition given its age ! so minimal body work should be needed upon first inspection, will really see what is underneath all that paint after the soda blast.

starting to wire brush my metro 4 pot calipers to and get them into some decent condition with the new vented disk arriving in the next couple of days, need to find or make a spacer for the calipers. have not got a large budget on this so tryin to do it as cheap as possbile being at uni an all. had a few lucky results on ebay and mates recently so that has kept cost down alot !

the bearing carriers from the diff have now been sent off to be anodised and new sprockets are on order ! speaking to a couple of mates of mine about getting a race fuel tank made up, having the aluminium cutt by one and welded by another as they seem to be fairly expensive to buy, plus can have it made to any shape or size that i want for the cost of the aluminium.

the project will hopefully start progressing abit quicker now.

few pictures.....

Hello Sean,
Got a picture of the sierra semi trailing arms, how do you attach it to the thread keeps coming up with upload failed? I'm assuming I have to many pictures uploaded in my time, failing that I can send it to your email address

Cheers

hi mate,

well i go through a funny little process lol i first open the picture then copy it into word (which automatically makes it smaller), then copy it into paint and save it as a slightly different name to the original photo (jpg), that way it is alot smaller file size, then you can upload it using the insert attachment thing on here and seems to work ok then, sometime the files can be too big if high megapixel digi cam is used to take photo.

hope it works better for you !

Sean

Hello Sean,
I've already reduced it using Paint, it's only 61KB that's absolutely tiny, it appears I've exceeded my allocation of space

Cheers

Isn't the ring gear for reverse going to be really close to the ground? It looks fairly large in diameter......

to be honest it doesnt seem much larger than other reverse gear setups to me, however if it is, it wont be by much so yeah should have plenty of room (hopefully lol), but no, yeah it should be fine.
