today my gearbox has given up completly apparently the bearing on the shafts have split from there casing and completly killed the box this was at 8.30am this morning in rush hour traffic on the way into leicester
Simon at morspeed to the rescue and i nhad one of his box's by 4.45pm - top guy.
My cars at my local rover dealership having the work done.
The question i want to know is what sort of price should a garage be charging for removing/replacing the engine and putting the new box on ?
They said its going to cost around £500
the day my gearbox died!!!!!

Thats sounds about right for main dealer prices, altho as MM says, it isn't that big of a job, but is time consuming because the engine needs to come out. I have done it in a day before, engine out, box off, new box on and engine in and running but it was a long day - I doubt they will rush to get it done for you!

bearing in mind Daniels is an MPI, there's probably a couple of hours work stripping pipes and sh*t out of the way before you could even consider lifting the engine...
At the going rate 500 notes to replace is not a bad deal, as it'll probably take 1 man a couple of days.
Between you me and the gatepost, what was the damage :cheese: at Morspeed ?

you parked next to me at stanford hall by the way daniel!! n you never said hi!!
All the gubbins/sensors on an MPI take roughly 2 minutes to pull out!! they are all on quick release clips!
