i am in the process of putting the engine back together and i have everything back together exceptfor one inner pot joint the other one just slid in quite easier but i cannot force this one in.
I think that it is the curclip(think thats what they are called) as it does not fit properly. so i got another one and tryed to put that on the out put shaft but when i put it on the clip has to open so much that when i get it to go on it has stretched and leaves me with the same problem as before i changed the clip
any one have any ideas?

I think I have managed to decipher....
The pot will not go onto the splied shaft comming out of the gearbox, because the split ring is pinching...
Try removing the ring from the shaft and reshaping it, as it may have kinked slightly which is preventing the pot from compressing it into the groove. If that does not work, then it's a new ring, which you use to be able to get from your local rover dealer.... but we all know where they are now
Maybe worth trying somone like DSN Classics if you need one

i have re written it now lol. i have clips but when i put them in thier grove on the output shaft thre end up going out of shape. how do you put them on?

Sometimes you can be lucky and they go on just fine, sometimes you can squash them in slightly using pliers, it might be worth replacing them anyway just as a precaution though

Put them on like a piston ring, locate one end in the groove, and then just work the ring round and into the groove until the other end snaps in, then locate the pot so that the ring is centrally located, and push..
If when putting the ring on it deforms too much, this means the spring steel is tired and it should be replaced anyway.

thanks very much for the infomation. although my mini has now confused me. not gonna start a new thread think this is probally me being stupid but i have a pre engauged start motor but there is still a solenoid on the in wing
it looks like that. it the iginition has always worked so i assume it is ment to be there but i just need to know where positive is. p.s. dont reckon i should of ripped the engine out on my own
