Hi All!
Just finished installing a new 123 dizzy found here- http://www.123ignition.nl/ FANTASTIC!!! Runs like a new car! Accelerates smooth more power and more gas mileage! no vac advance, but the distributer comes with an onboard computer that you can set the advance curve with, no need for the vac!!!
Stumbled across this one by accident, Dizzy had gone south, so decided to replace it . thought my engine was out of a metro- A+, got the dizzy for the A+ and aparently I have an old a series, not metro.... Called up 7enterprises- they sent me this new distributor WOW!

Got it for about 325$ which would be about 160#'s

By the way, Which is better, the A series or A+... Just curious if I should be angry at the guy who sold me the socalled Metro A+ or thank him..

Physically there's not much to choose between an A+ block and A Series.

Personally, I'd be thanking him, because the older cranks, rods etc are considered to be better, and there is a suspision that the block are made of better quality iron.

I use A series blocks in preference to A+, but they are getting harder to find...

**edit** intereseted in the dizzy's though, will have to have a read up on them, as I'm considering going to mappable ignition curve.

I was thinking of going back down the Aldon route, but I may consider one of these now! Looks good.

They look quite impressive. I wonder how many we'd need to buy to get a club discount?

77 Leyland, $325 from Seven is a good price. The N.A. distributor for these is TDC Engineering (a.k.a. Marcel Chichak) who is also the guy who worked on the A-series curves.
see: http://tdcperformance.ca/

For those of you in the U.K.... I thought these were actually being built in Europe... perhaps The Netherlands?

I thought there was provisions for a vacuum hookup? I seem to remember that there is no actual advance unit on the dizzy. From what I remember, the dizzy can monitor the vacuum electronically and uses that information to add advance to the curve when necessary.

By the way 77 Leyland, if the previous owner had sold you an A+ I don't think there's a 123 dizzy for that block, at least not yet.

so is this thing electronic or mechanical or some kind of hybrid?

I'm really curious because I was thinking of picking up an electronic ignition kit for the pimp mobile but this this sounds like the bomb!

ITs fully electronic. It still has a rotor, but both the cap and rotor are now made by bosch- available anywhere- The thing that blew me away is how the instructions described to set the static timing with lights lighting up inside the dizzy and such- when I was all done I got out the timing light and it was DEAD on!!!! no adjustments needed at all!
Nice product!!!!!

are they easy to fit?

I was told that just rotating the Dizzy cap on its bracket can make it runn differently? is this true?

Sounds very much like the ignition on Injection Minis, but without the injection, all built into a neat package that is the distributer. All electronic with built in crank possition and a mechanical distibution of spark. Very clever

It was VERY easy to fit. The rotation of the dizzy on the bracket does adjust the timing causing the engine to run either advanced or reterded. Basicaly, the install went as follows- loosen the clamp, take out the plugs for ease of cranking, roll the car forward or back untill the rotor arm points to the #1 plug, look at the flywheel, roll it a little more forward till you can see that you are at 0' or TDC, pull out the old dizzy, position the new dizzy in the same manner, pop it in, hook up the red wire to the positive on the coil- DO NOT HOOK UP THE BLACK WIRE!!!, switch on the ignition and rotate the dizzy till' a green LED just lights up on the dizzy, finish up hooking up the wires and close her up. Fire up the engine and Bobs your Uncle!! It couldnt be easier!!!! Took no more than 10 minutes- Hardest part was loosening up the clamp with old fashoned cresent wrenches instead of ratchets!!! :gasp:
Running over 300 miles with it now and the mini is running the best it EVER has!! Heres a cheesey video, but the car sounds bad A$$!!! You will need the DivX Codec to view- PS: Its real hard to drive, shift, and film all at the same time, so this is obviously not all she's got! And the speedo is 2/3 accurate, so not bad.. http://www.coinspire.../movie_0002.avi

And no the speed limit on that road WAS NOT 25mph......... what?!?! I have no idea what you are talking about
