Um...
Simply put, the crown wheel is replaced with a sprocket, and the planet wheels contained within a "tank" welded to the carrier. The Carrier is then mounted on roller or ball bearings in place of the original taper roller bearings (no side load anymore, so you don't need a bearing capable of withstanding side thrust), in turn mounted in some kind of bracket from the body or subframe.
There are lots of threads in this section which should demonstrate all this with pictures - have a look around....

mate i have loads of heavy motor bike sprockets at my old mans place and a diff if you wana come n have play?

Alternatively you could get a diff such as the mini spares evo (lsd) and blank all the holes (e.g. bond in some ally plates or top hats) then drill and tap one for a fill/drain.
Ive seen that setup run on many Formula student cars with very good results.

This is where i got mine from. He did not do the reverse gear when i got mine.(but im not fed up with pushing it yet..)
works v well, good enough for me..
And i put a xpin mini spaires diff in it.

the kit from west garage looks fairly decent, its a nice piece of kit, an in my opinion looks nicer than the zcars equivalent.
the reverse gear is fairly easy to sort out if it was wanted at a later date anyway.
