Hi guys

Right then so lots of things going on, motor has been pulled and front subframe, pretty much every thing on the left hand side (and right side) has been changed, tie bars, bottom arms, hub, flexible brake lines, shock absorber, front subframe, steering rack, track rod ends, track rod arms etc etc

Also while the engine was out I decided to swap the old jack knight lsd to a much more modern MED NXG lsd, however once stripped down I also noticed that the pinion was pitted so a new crownwheel and pinion was also ordered from MED

I also took the time to rebuild the rod change, fitted a new rod and linkage stabilizer, rear bushes and upgraded the mounts to pilot ones to reduce the flex, I also installed the mini spares spring change.

Some nice new titanium bolts have been fitted

And lastly on Saturday the mini was taken to the body shop

So it wont be too long and it will be all back together and better then before

Kev how do you find the bias adjuster on the rod change.  I find it difficult to get reverse with it fitted.    Just getting mine prepped for the Hillclimbs in the standard class.

That's an immaculate front subframe - what's your deadline for having it all finished?

I'll be interested how the KAD arms hold up - I've always shyed away from them on my rally car as I've assume they'd be much more prone to getting bent.

Okay

So it’s been a struggle but it’s all back together, completed a few events which have been hit and miss.

Follow my crash the first thing I change was the fuel tank, as it ripped open as we crashed and was spilling fuel not good.

7D8E9E69-A6CE-4EA4-99CB-A99779823C34_zps

Just have to remember to check the fuel levels, decided to replace the whole fuel system from MED.

Also change the position of the oil cooler

4D76404F-3C20-427F-B07B-C45DD0576B58_zps

To cover the fuel filler hole I got an arcangels carbon Kevlar blanking plate along with a parcel shelf

New fire extinguishers fitted as well

Then a few weeks back we had the l’etacq attack rally, and things did not go so well. Before the event I had a play with the hand brake and rear brakes and I must have just slight over adjusted the the rear brakes. On the first stage long uphill straight into a left 9 on the brakes and the back end locked up and it all got out of shape, held on and just clipped the front l/h arch and wheel which put the steering out ? got back to service de-adjusted the rears much better.

Pulled the wheel off at a longer service could not see what was bent so we adjusted the tracking. But the cars handling was bad. At lunch I thought I would have another look, and I spotted the bottom arm rose joint.

50DA1C34-7866-4C4E-AB7B-A9018C5A01F1_zps

Did not have a spare and I did not fancy it snapping so called it a day.

So I have gone over the rear brakes and the kad bias and made some adjustments ordered some parts and will get to work once they arrive.

So hopefully things will get better and I will stop poking.

Cheers

Kev

Hi guys

Right I’m contemplating changing from 10” wheels to 13” due to the sheer lack of tyre choices for 10”

I have found a number of tyres that will suit what I need for both dry and wet conditions. What I’m struggling with is wheels, I need something strong etc as it’s for rallying any ideas??

I like the look of these Braid A13 wheels

352DE1CC-ABBA-4737-B674-FEB0400D95F0_zps

I can get them in the correct pcd 7x13 in ET11 which I think will be fine, I just know how they will look??

What do you guys think? Should I just get minilites

Cheers

Kev

Hi,

Son and I just about to commence build of an asphalt/sealed surface rally car (as soon as we sell our 106 :D ). We likewise are thinking 13's due to lack of tyre choice in 10 & 12.

What tyres are you thinking of and in what sizes? We have been looking at Kumho's which seem to be available in various compounds and in wets.

Do like the look of those wheels, but obviously can not go wrong with Minilites, what minilites though as so many copies? My son has also been looking at some very sexy black wheels that he reckons are ok for motorsport, but as he is on holiday can not ask him the make at the minute.

I did start a thread on the Motorsport forum asking about wheels/ tyres/ brakes, but think that because I suggested 13's that put most people off from replying :D. Having done a number of single venues in the last 18 months or so in the 106, one thing I have learned is that tyres are critical.

I will continue to follow your thread with interest.

Cheers!

Dave

I am certainly not any kind of expert on tyres, but we've got 13inch Yokohama A539's on the GT. We only managed to do a couple of dry hillclimbs on them, but my son & I both really liked them. They give plenty of grip, from cold and talking to other people using them they seem to be pretty good in the wet too. As I say though we only have very limited experience of using them.

Hey Dave

Size of tyres I was thinking 185/60x13 or 180/530x13

As for the tyres I'm looking at the, Kumho Ecsta C03 Tyre (medium compound) or Nankang AR-1 Tyre for the dry conditions. And wet conditions Kumho Ecsta C03 Tyre in a soft/super soft but the tread cut or the yoko A021-R as that's listed for wet weather. Kumho do have an actual wet tyre but I cant see it in 13".

I have emailed a few places for recommendations on tyres, so once I hear back I will let you know.

Cheers

Kevin
