Now this really is something i didnt expect to ever see. Yesterday i was going round a roundabout at a reasonable speed and there was a pot hole about half was round that i couldnt miss, as i went over it there was a big bang. I carried on but as i was steering off the roundabout the front drivers side corner dropped and dug in sending me spinning to the curb. My first thought was that i'd lost a wheel but when i got out my wheel was still there but just hover car style (horizontal), so must have been a ball joint failure right......no, the hub casting has failed meaning the entire ball joint has come out of the hub. Has anybody ever seen anything like this before? Its done considerable damage to the car and trashed my custom brake hose on that side. Unfortunatly i have to leave the car at home and go back to uni with nothing now

I suppose there's always that possibility, but never seen it... seen trunions fail on moggies and such like, which is a similar effect.

If that was me I would consider claiming from the council to get some compensation.

However any compensation claims do come out of the same budget that gets the roads re-surfaced.

Unlucky dude, sorry to hear it.

They do road repairs on the cheap around my way as well. If they surface dress another road in my town, which in effect shot blasts everyones car, I'll scream blue murder.

Jammy's right... I did that once with a buckled wheel, got the form but never got round to filling it in...

Get a photo of the pot-hole and the damage....

unless the council know about the hole there is nothing you can do. ie is the holse has been marked to be repaired you are fine, but if not and if has not been prev reported to them then you wont get much more than a thanks for reporting it. but I would still try and claim on the off chance it has been reported but not marked up yet. just dont assume that you will be getting a pay out.

Hmmm, well i did get some photos of the hole and the wheel so i might see what i can do. The hole looked like it had already been repaired a few times before so they should recognise it. Still im just really annoyed as i wont really have time to get it sorted before christmas now, as im going back to uni in about 20 mins
