I'd use it for running in, nothing else.

Who would recycle oil? There must be masses of surplus heavy oils for every gallon of petrol 'n diesel the refineries churn out.
Asda are hardly likely to produce their own, I guess they buy it off whoever supplies their forecourt fuel.

surely you would want to use a decent oil to 'run in' as this is a
critical time in an engines life. I can't see asda oil being that bad
as it would still need to be made to a standard oil grading (SAE).

You need mineral oil to bed the rings in, will only be in for a few 100 miles so it's perfect, dont want to chuck in expensive stuff only to drain it a few 100 miles later.

I've used it only when super poor and because my mini is using a hell of alot of oil at the moment, it's not great but its better than nothing i guess! x

Don't be too hasty to *woman of ill repute* it off, what API/ACEA specification is it? Just quoting ASDA oil and the SAE viscosity grade tells you nothing really....

I looked at it a while ago; could not see any quality ratings on it whatsoever. Did use it, but the engine needed more frequent topping up. Now I use it in the landrovers oil-bath air filter.
