I must point out the following is my point of view following my personal experiences with said insurers:

To cut a long story short,LAST MAY my cooper broke down,My policy includes breakdown assist and recovery at home or away in the U.K and europe, after an hour wait the recovery truck arrived, didnt even bother to look what was wrong with the car,and asked it where i would like it recovered,The truck was a flat -bed tilt set up,and the mini was driven on with no problems, whilst fitting the tie down strap to the front wheel the mechanic/driver failed to take into concideration i have a full fibre glass flip front, and fitted the tie down strap incorrectly, resulting in my left hand a-panel,wing and wheel arch being smashed and ripped off,as you can imagine I went mad,he admitted his neglegence and delivered the car back to my house,he then tried to push the mini into my drive by pushing the front,on a fibre glass flip, this guy was clueless and a narrowly avoided more damage.

The mini went to Dan and John at the real mini company for repairs,an assessor came to see the car and all agreed for the repair to proceed, all fixed everyone was happy, however im still waiting nearly a year on for my £200 excess that i had to pay to be paid, despite numerous phonecalls back and forth im still waiting,as im in the RAF and overseas for months on end I just dont have the time to keep chasing them for the money,My complaints are falling on deaf ears,i blame them for not notifying the local recovery agent of the modifications on my cooper, which in turn resulted in the damage.

The car is on a classic policy, with the full package insured fully comprehensive, and I expect a little better from a so called "specialist " insurer

Rant over!!

Some responsibility must rest with you for not telling the driver it had a f/g flip front....an insurer can't really be expected to give details of modifications to a 3rd party pickup firm! That part isn't really AF's fault at all, but the length of time for payout is.

Right ,lets get this straight, the driver was fully briefed, and even remarked that he would have to be carefull when tying it down due to the nature of the front, enough said.
I expect my insurer to provide a recovery truck / driver / tie down equipment that is fit for purpose and suitable for the modifications on my vehicle,as my insurer are fully aware, had i gone with a cheaper high street insurer then this could be accepted sort of,NOT with a specialist

Not sure with the RAF but with the RN, one of the officers at a unit is trained in legal matters, sometimes upto barrister level. Typically one of the logistic officers; if not one would at least be able to advise on who to speak to. Sure a formal letter from Fleet Legal (or RAF equivalent) politely explaining the situation and how you would like it resolved forthwith will help put a fire under AF's posterior. Also might be able to use them as a third party and handle correspondence shore side for you when your deployed.

Regards

Simon.

They give excellent quotes, but very poor service.

the exess would have to be claimed of the other party as part of the settlement so if they did not include it in the original paper work you may have to try to get it back yourself , had to do it myself in the past

as for their service on last years bh2n run car broke in germany one phone call to adrain flux had car recovered, hire car sorted for remander of the trip and flights home for me and my passanger ,and car back to me in the uk within 2 weeks >_<

I've used AF for eight years and they have always played fair and provided a good service. They are brokers and the insurer is Trinity, which AFAIR is registered offshore and is part-owned by one of the AF partners. They paid up for the last accident in Huey and they have now written him off as a cat C and have agreed as per the policy to give me 80% of the agreed value plus the car so repairs can begin. The last call I got was at 4.30pm on Xmas Eve which I thought was a sign of dedication. However it was a short one when I explained he was calling me on Mrs T's mobile in Norway ...

Please excuse any errors as this laptop uses Norwegian and doesn't recognise Eng spelling.

Correct!
threaten to get the ombudsman involved watch how quickly that cheque comes through the post, and i have to say this is'nt the first time i have head bad things abouut adrian flux!
In terms of mini specific insurance, i have heard very good things about Footman James, there is a discount with them when you join the British Mini Club.

when my mini broke down, all my old insurance company only told the firm was it was a blue rover! not that it had wide wheels or was a mini! so they sent a dolly tow truck to tow me, had to send out a flat bed, which took another hour and a half! all on my 18th birthday!
