I hit a milestone today and got Foms engine out. It all went a lot smoother than I thought it would considering I haven't taken a Mini engine out since I was about 13. I'm pretty happy with my days work and the engine seems to be in good condition so it shouldn't take much to get it going.

As I started.

Ball joints popped, horrible drum brakes I really should get some discs. ;)

Gone at last, tomorrow I want to get the subframes out.

Looks a solid shell and a good base for a project.

I'll be watching this one
Good luck

I got the subframe off, pulled out the loom and started stripping the bulkhead on Friday. Next week I want to get it stripped down to a totally bare shell and start cutting out the rotten bits.

We managed to get the pot joints off with out cutting the steel clips. :D

Front subframe out and good and solid.

It's starting to look pretty empty now.

Well Fom is now officially immobilized. O_O

Getting the rear frame off was a pain in the ass as one the blot on the drivers side heel board sheared at the head and the one above it rounded off. In the end I had to grind the head off top bolt drop the frame from the passenger side and slide it off with a cro bar. Fun eh?

As a reward for my hard work I got more rust. :techsupport:

Only the one in this side of the workshop. :(

I though I'd better get some more done on this so we flipped Fom on his side pulled the tank out and now I get to have fun cutting rust out.

Well the big hole in the floor's filled, I've started work on rebuilding the rear crossmember and I pulled off what was left of the drivers side sill.

As it goes theres not to much rust so far I'm surprised that when the sill came of there wasn't more rust hidden under there, looking good, keep up the good work

I couldn't really do much this afternoon as I wasn't allowed to make any sparks because a customers car was getting prepped. So I just cut the lip for the crossmember, got it welded on and also made a patch to cover the filler neck hole.

It is progressing nicely! I'll be watching this thread closely.

Nice Clubman, I have always had a soft spot for them - my Mum used to have one just like it

Thanks for the comment, this should be progressing faster but I'm spending to much time thinking about what it could be like instead of working on it.

Got the drivers side arch finished up, it still need a bit of trimming but that can wait.
Posted Image

Did some more grinding on the drivers sill and cutoff the horrible patch the previous owner had welded on.

And finally rolled Fom on to his other side and started cutting the rust from the cross member, arch and floor. I'm really glad this side isn't as bad as the other.

And while everyone was out I had a play with the mig welder, I think I need a bit more practice.

Decided I'd better get back to work on this thing. I'm taking out the rear bins for three reasons 1. It's going to make repairing the sills tones easier, 2 I'm not using standard estate seats, 3. cutting them out gives the tons of room for a couple FG speaker pods.
