Well here is the finished article. Its not perfect but im pleased with how its turned out.
I ended up using crackle black paint just to see what it was like, and I must say im pleased with how it turned out, sure it aint the correct paint but it does give it that 'period' and antique feel.
This was only a prototype and there are probably a few things id change slightly, but overall im pleased with it.
I reckon if I was making a few of them Id opt for powder coating in a wrinkle finish to ensure the paint was a little tougher!

I didnt make it with the intention of keeping it, and fitting it would mean screwing it to my dash, which I ont really want to do.
However the until is almost identical in size and shape to the original works dashes so it would look very much like the picture below if fitted.

rather than drill into your dfash to mount it you should just use the cleco clamp style fasteners to hold it in place.. they are solid enough to hold it in place and you dont have to drill holes in your car.. thats what a guy i know does with his 69 cooper rally car and it works just fine...

Yes B&Q sell a variety of colours that give the crackle effect
