Mini Cooper 1995

I put a post on a few weeks ago about the headlights not working on my mini, since then i'm still having the same problem,

All the lights work expect for the headlights and the rear lights on the same switch so the indicators work the brake lights work and hazards but i can't get the main lights to work.

This is what i have tried so far,

Fuses under bonnet
Battery
Chased wires

And i'm yet to have any joy, what i think is next is the button it'self but it look quite complicated for a novice like myself, i would appricate any advice if anyone has come across this problem before?

Thanks
Alex

You should bring up the old topic so we can see what's already been tried.

What works:

tail lights (including no plate illum)?
front sidelights, ignition off?
front sidelights, ignition on?
dash illumination?
dipped beam?
main beam?
main beam flasher?

Take headlight unit out and check it's getting voltage. if it isn't double check the fuses then inspect the switch and connectors. If its getting the voltage then you'll probably need to replace the light units. But both going at once isn't really likely. If you ask me it definitely sounds like you've got a fuse blown

Check that the rear of your lightswitch hasn't melted.

Dan's advice about the rocker switch fits. It's a fairly common fault.

Pull the switch from the panel. There's only 3 wires on the connector block: bridge brown to red and the side/tail & dash should light, bridge brown to blue and the headlights should work.

I have just checked the switch and that seems to be ok? any other ideas.......

I'm been an absolute novice here but the fuse box i've looked at is under the bonnet is there another one that might control the switches that i don't know about?

Thanks

Did you remove the switch?

It's the only place all the circuits you mention come together. It really has to be the switch or the brown wire supplying it.

I believe your Mini will have additional in-line fuses beneath or behind the dash?: -

I know this is a really old thread but the problem is still current for me, if bridging the wires helps is it a faulty switch?
