At the moment if i change from 5th to 6th gear it, without real care, wants to engage reverse. from what i can gather its an ECU setup issue.
does anyone know the output the hydra uses and how to set it up?

any one else having this problem?

cheers

didnt think the ecu had anything to do with gear selection? adjustment is via the cables? me thinks.

On mine I cannot select reverse unless the ignition is turned off. During normal running reverse is locked out. It is a bit of a pain in the arse as when manovering around its al stop turn off select reverse start again etc etc. This could be usefull for me if you find out as I might break into this and put a switch in it so I dont have to keep tuning off and on when manovering....

i have made sure that the linkages are setup right but its usual for a honda engine to have a solenoid to triggers after a set speed, 10mph on standard hondas i think, which stops you being able to select reverse.

Rob, can you send me your map so i can look at the output settings? it sounds like you have the solenoid set to on all the time, when it can be set to trigger when above a certain speed.
i have seen the settings tabs for output options it the map but dont want to just randomly enable anything...

Would love to send you my map but I dont have the means to get it out of my ecu. I take it you have the software and the download lead. I did download the software some time ago but was unable to get a lead. Also I read that a usb to serial converter did not work with the software and so I stopped pursuing any further. Do you have a pin out/ Drawing to mak up a lead. If so send it on over I will knock myself up a lead and see what I can do.

i know its not meant to work, but i use this

http://www.lindy.co....-15m/42855.html

it comes with drivers, i even have made it work with my apple mac in windows mode.

as for the hydra software

http://www.hydraems....ftware0205.html

check which hardware you have, but most likely its like mine which is Hydra2.5R12

http://www.hydraems....2.5r12setup.exe

let see if we can get this sorted. :-D

i have done some research and found that my setup looks to be using output PWM14 which is pin B5. apparently this switches earth... which is very odd as the solenoid's other connection is earth! no wonder it doesn't work.

looking at a segment of the hydra manual it seems to suggest that PWM5 on pin B4 is switching power but a very low amp tolerance.

i have tried switching this on in the hydra software, well turn on when speed is above "2".

it still does nothing.

can anyone else help with this? its quite annoying and im sure im going to kill the gearbox next time i try for 6th gear!

OK, i have finally realised what is going on now. just incase someone else has this.
The ECU as standard switches earth on output 14 (pin b5 on the small grey connector).
The solenoid has power to it and requires earth to be switched to complete the circuit.
The ECU uses VSS or vehicle speed sensor output to gage when the car is moving and triggers it above 10 mph, this is where the problem occurs. Zcars upgraded the standard diff in my car without transferring / adding the ring gear to mesh with the VSS sensor, it might be that the diff they use cant support the ring gear?
So whats happening now is that the ECU never reads vehicle speed to lock off reverse!

my interim fix is that i have set the ECU output to use engine speed (>1400rpm) instead of vehicle speed. this is not the ideal solution as it will still be possible to kill the gearbox if i let the revs drop while changing gear.

i chose 1400rpm due to trying to get it into reverse when its overly cold / hot it can idle high.

so the proper fix it to pull of the ring gear from my orig diff and pull the box to pieces and push back on to the new diff.

The alternative seems to hard wire it to always blank off reverse, making you turn the engine off to engage reverse.
I have thought about doing this, and making a switch / button on the steering column which i could manually enable you to use reverse but as default be blanked off.

It is possible to fit a standard speedo gear ring to the Honda K20 Gripper LSD for anyone else experiencing this problem.

I dont know if Zcars use a bespoke diff that cant accept the speedo ring???

I emailed Gripper asking if you can fit the standard speedo gear ring to their LSD for a Honda K20 engine and got this reply:
