Been meaning to start a dedicated thread to my engine swap.

The Car

I have got the pro-motive kit en route from the guys once I wire over the money tomorrow. Wiring loom already converted.

Just picked up this clean 2003 5PW engine with 2000 miles:

I need an ECU, R1 gauge cluster, power commander, gear indicator, shift light.

Are the ECU and CDI the same thing?

I am considering using either the stock R1 cluster for instrumentation, or an aftermarket unit such as the AIM sports MXL...

Anyone know if the newer R1 cluster works with the older 2003 Engine? Would love any and all input. I will be doing the swap with the help of my mechanic. I'm excited as hell to have Pro-Motive #35 and I plan to drive the hell out of it.

Thanks and cheers!

I love your car and I'm sure it'll be even better with the R1 lump in it.

May I ask what headlights you're using?

Thanks!

Those black projector headlamps were such rubbish they were dangerous. I am now using Hella E Codes:

CDI is capacitor discharge ignition and is usually a separate box. Some ECU's have them built in now but im fairly sure yours uses a separate box.

Good look with the build

Been busy with health and am due for surgery this Wednesday. I'm getting a pain pump implanted in my side to help with chronic pain from pancreatitis. I decided to do an inventory on everything to see what I'm missing. Quality of the subframe is incredible. Really cool piece. Only thing I'm missing are new CV joints, driveshafts and all new poly bushings. Also the cable to put the Qaife reverse unit in reverse.

Heritage Garage in Costa Mesa CA has been responsible for all the work. They've done great work so far and I'm 100% sure myself nor any other mechanic could have done this swap.

They had to adapt my body to use the newer subframe Pro-motive provides.

We eliminated the secondary fuel tank with a fake filler, fuel lines are being run this week and should be up and running soon. Had to get a replacement motor because the first motor had a cracked cylinder head from shipping. The new one has 8k miles and had its valve adjustment and barnett clutch installed.

New seats are needed as well....

First test drive was today. Working out some final issues. This is going to be my daily driver if I can stand it. The R1 makes 170whp with a 11,500 redline. 1300lb car. Its scary. Lights up in 3rd and even in 4th.

Enjoy!
