I had such an issue with my previous Mini I bought as a no-runner.

When I pulled off the fuel line which comes on the carbs there was a suction noise.

After changing the mechanical pump to a new one, same issue.

The problem was the fuel line going out of the tank, it was twisted so that the pump could not suck fuel...

Thanks, I will double-check that too. And good thing to check the suction noise just to see if the pump is at least operating

I’d try filling the carb bowl with fuel, and if that doesn’t get it running long enough you can also back fill the fuel lines from the carb end

I fiddled with things since the last update. The petrol found it's way by spinning the engine with the starter without the spark plugs. Then my ignition was very off, so I placed the distributor roughly by aligning the mark on the pulley. Then I turned the distributor slightly to find fire, and it started!

It's running rough because no adjustments at all, but that's a very good step!

I tried to move forward but the clutch wasn't engaging far enough, you can imagine the noise it made when I tried to go in first gear.I adjusted it and will try again today.

First ride yesterday!! Well, first four rides! My street is a dead end, we didn't go further than that.

The alignement is awful, the timing is rough but the fun is all there! Wow what a charm to go through the gears. (I'm not used to engage reverse though!)

Congrats!

Love this thread because mine is a ‘78 1000 from Canada and your pics are a great reference.

Great work! I've been following with interest too. I'm in Australia and I've got a UK built mini 1000 from 1972 and its very similar to yours in most ways, more so than the Australian models, and it's been a great help at times. You've come a long long way from when you picked it up!

Took it outside again Saturday to put the bonnet on, give it a wash and mess with the alignment a bit

I just couldn't believe it while washing it! I fell back in love with the paint job, as quite a lot of dust accumulated in the past months.

The grille will go after I make the adjustments on the timing, and the spot lamps will go back after the technical inspection. After that, it's finishing stuff like the dashboard, make a floor for the boot and fun things like that.

New battery! gift from my dad. The old one has a purchase sticker from 2001, it's time is done. It served me well to do all the testing though.

Took the time to adjust the toe alignment of the front wheels yesterday evening with a self made tool. I ended up with about 1/16'' between rear and front. That will do until I do a more professional alignment.
