Amazing. Great pics.

Regarding your comment about the crossmember. It is said ( I had made a crossmember by this dude at a shop etc..) I think thats what you meant. Keep it up.

Also had a go at removing what's left of the floor panel on the heelboard by finding spot welds or lots of grinder action.

See you next week

Nice repairs, looks so much better with larger pieces instead of lots of little patches.

Oh, quick break on the Mini in my holidays. I did bodywork...but on another car. It was a bit more stressful cause this is a car we use everyday..

This weekend I've got to wax my other car, and than maybe I'll be back on the Mini...

Cheers

Looks like a nice repair you did there & that's an amazing difference in the shine on the black car!

Well, thanks for that.

Thing is, just had an accident this morning with the orange Dodge. An big Acura SUV going in opposite direction cut me in the face while turning in a driveway. He never saw us. Was with my loved one and son, nobody's hurt cause we were doing less than 30 mph.

Now it's up to the insurance company to decide if the car's worth repairing or not. :(

Sorry to hear that, especially after you've just repaired it. Good no-one was hurt.

That always amazes me, 'Sorry, I didn't see you'. What so your in a large car in an elevated position for viewing & you don't see a bright orange car heading towards you less than 100m away?? You don't deserve a licence mate, is what I would have said. At least by saying that they're confessing to reckless driving.

Well well,

Regarding the accident, the insurance company evaluated that the car wasn't worth repairing so they srapped it and gave us a check for it. So we spitted some more money to buy something better. We ended up buying a Nissan Versa. You know it as a Nissan Tiida in UK.

So after one week repairing the Dodge, one week messing with the insurance, one week of car shopping, and one week of break means 4 week without any work on the Mini. So I am back this week finally!!

Made another panel on left side..

Then ground it all up

Next, attention was paid to the right side:

Cut..

More cutting...

Weld..

And that's how it currently looks.

See ya

When doing the bulkhead repairs I noticed a crack just under the dash rail, and...with a bit a steel brushing, it looked like that..

So after cutting it's this

...and while doing this, noticed other problems here, so decided to take a look under..

Turns out I had a good idea to look

I'm realising that a full restoration is spending all your time on all the unplanned things and maybe, one day, sometimes, you'll do what you expected to do. :gimme:

Build is coming along nicely. looking forward to seeing a finished car. I have a Canadian 78 as well.
Let me know if you decide to part with your KN Jupiter's. They were stock issue on the Canadian Mini's. I have the same set and can always use a few spares.
by the way I'm in Michigan.

Okaaay, toeboard is done for now.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Cleaned the boot floor just to confirm what I already knew: it's full of little patches on top of the original steel. That car was heavy! A boot floor will be on the buying list next year.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Seriously, I counted over 20 patches! Don't ever do this please! Rot will come through!

More work tomorrow, see you soon.
