This is the best I could come up with after Googling for a while:
http://forum.miata.n...p/t-283716.html

Quoting from that site...
Stole this from another site (where someone asked for a manual for the same model timing light), maybe it'll help you:
Reset button - resets the light to zero
Tach/Adv - Toggles between the tach setting and the advance settings.
Flash - On/Off for the strobe
Dec - Decrease the setting
Inc - Increases the setting

Basic use. Hook up the battery leads, Clip the pickup on cylinder number
one. It should come up and ask you to select number of cylinders.
Now it will display the rpms of the engine and can be used as a standard
timing light.
To use the advance feature you need the specs for the engine. They will
tell you that base timing should be something like 4 degrees at 500 rpm.
and that full advance should be something like 30 degrees at 1500 rpms.

Now use the Tach/Adv button to select degrees. Use Dec/Inc to adjust
that number. Then switch to tach and adjust it to the correct number.
When you use the light set properly it will read zero degrees at the set
rpm IF the timing is correct. Use the same thing to check full advance.

To elaborate on the above, the black clip goes to an earth point, the red clip goes to +12V (the battery terminal on the starter solenoid is such a point) and the inductive pickup clamps onto the plug wire for cylinder #1.

To use the advance feature he mentioned above... you don't have to know the factory specs for your engine. What you do need to know is how to use the feature. Let's say you want to SET the timing to 11 BTDC at 1000 RPM. In tach mode bring the RPM up to 1000 using the idle speed adjustment screw. Switch to advance mode and use the DEC or INC buttons to change the time at which the light flashes. Using our example above, you would press INC until "11" is displayed. Press the FLASH button and the light/strobe should start. Aim it at your engine's timing marks. Rotate the dizzy until the engine's ZERO marker lines up with the pointer. You use ZERO because your light is flashing 11 BTDC. Lock the dizzy down and set the idle RPM back where you want it.

Spot-on my Mr. Lawson, I've a slightly older version of exactly the same timing light.

For info, the light automatically goes to zero when you start it, so you can also use the timing marks on the engine, however I prefer to dial in my advance, as above.
