Hi, i was given what i think is a 998cc engine from a 1972 mini?
Engine number is:99h353e-h28618
I have been told it had a rebuild bottom end when fitted to the car and had a stage 3 head fitted but the previous owner removed this and put a standard head on. The engine hasn't done many miles as it was removed from his car shortly after a full restoration because someone pulled out infront of him resulting in him writing off his mini. It has a crack in the selector housing but i know this is replaceable. It will probably need a rebuild before going in a car as i can't be sure of the condition.

I'm just not sure what its worth.

Any ideas

Cheers :(

Engines need to be running to make decent money, the one you have there is a "risk purchase" anything over £25 is a bonus

Early pre '76 that looks like, has a remote gearbox ;) Probably early 70s.

How much do you think it could be worth in the current condition and how much if i were to rebuild it?

(Does the remote make it worth more?)

Cheers

Rebuild costs will probably out-weigh its value.

I'd have guessed at £50-£75 for it.

In current condition, yes.

Its a bit of a niche engine but I'm sure you'd find a buyer looking for a period motor. I'd have given similar money for a unit to rebuild when I did the lump in my Elf.

One problem is with it the gearbox selector housing has a crack at the gear lever side over one of the holes around 2 inches long

I might stick it on eBay and see what it fetches, anythings better than nothing i suppose.

(Another thing, are the blocks all the same i.e. would this block fit onto say a 1990 ish cars gearbox?)

Yes you can ,mix and match early and late stuff (A - A+). You need to use the transfer gears from the gearbox to mate them though.

How bads the crack?
