It looks a bit shiney - so will I have to stick my carpet to it? My old carpet just sat on top.

Its quite a snug fit, and can be taped down at the edges with the supplied tape, so the carpet should just sit nicely on top of it.

Got mine on order, going to add it with rest of what ever sound proofing is there, hoping it quietens it down some for motorways/dual carriage ways!
My plan is this stuff , then carpet underlay, then carpet oh and Dynamat on the bulkhead... oh oh the stuff on the bulkhead on the engine bay side.. oh oh oh and a bonnet insulation pad..... Think I need anything else?

I seriously would if i had to use mini for a long journey, I wear them on motorbike as I have hearing loss and ringing in ears (tinitus)
already so mini prob was not best car choice lol but i love it hehe!

Its just black but more like closed cell foam it looks like to me!
Heres a picture of mine installed, i did post a thread in minichat saying how it worked very well.
