Going to need a dremel.

I've got an old one I thought I'd lost, it was on the garage floor under some boxes for a few years(!). it's only a basic model but it's free on a spare or repair basis.

If you want it it's yours, it should still work but I haven't tested it (the 'drill' end has surface rust)

I bought myself a new 8200 a few years ago when I thought I'd lost my original. It's gone up over £40 since I bought it - it's £105 now! :o

Got extremely pi**ed off :mmkay:

Put the passenger side suspension back together with new doughnut, knuckle, rebound rubber and damper, Cleaned up, shifted all the vehicles around so I could get the Mini out for a rest drive expecting a lovely smooth jitter free ride - but it drove very strangely. Steering wheel was off centre and an almighty tyre squeal on left handers. Parked up back home and had a look round, the passenger side was fine (if a bit high) but the drivers side was on the bump stop- so back in the garage for a look. Once the wheel was off I peered in and up inside the tower, somehow the doughnut had got itself almost on its side and the cone was wedged in tight. Managed to get the upper ball joint seperated but there was still a lot of tension on the spring - nothing for it but to get the crocodile saw out and cut the ally cone - my it went with a bang. Upshot is the doughnut is knackered as the seating ring for the cone is crushed and the welded on nut broke off when I cut the cone. Just managed to get another ordered from Minispares before they closed but It will be a trip to M&M's to get a replacement cone tomorrow.

cant understand how it happened

Bolted on some DSN goodness.

Dave at DSN drilled and tapped one of his thermostat engine steadies to enable me to fit my injection temp sensor.

If you think it looks good, you should hear it pulling 7,000 revs in third.

New rubber spring arrived from Minispares on time - as usual :proud:  Took extra care fitting it as I didn't want to have the same problem as before. I reckon it was just me rushing that caused the other spring to slip, didn't check the trumpet alignment as I undid the compression tool and it must have slipped to one side. It was OK until I turned off the drive and over it went - stupid stupid boy >_<

This time the ride was fine, much smoother and a lot less vibration into the cabin - those bump stops must be hard. Still need to get the tracking checked though, still squealing on left handers , I did fit a new TRE months ago on the drivers side but the neg camber produced by the old knackered springs disguised the miss-aligned tracking - i did wonder why I had to take the steering wheel of to centre it when I got it back on it's wheels after the re-build :shy:

Made a jig up to check the tracking - it was miles out loads of toe-in instead of 1.6mm toe-out :ohno:  Adjusted it and got it as close as I could measuring with a rule and what a difference - handling is brilliant and steering has a much better feel. Came across a Mk2 Escort while out on a test run he got a bit of a fright as I blasted past :D

I'll get it checked properly but it feels very close.

Decided to take the Mini for a run to Herne Bay to see the car show, the car performed really well, the only problem was I had the wrong date the car show is next weekend, I had a great day though lots of nice Mini roads and lots of classic cars enjoying the good weather.

I haven't been to herne bay for years!

My girlfriend lived there before we moved to the Isle of Wight!

Daughter and I finally started our Mini restoration.  Did not do much, but took hours only to get most of the interior out.  Found that the 5/16 nuts (wheel well side) of the door hinges were all rounded.  I struggled for hours just getting the dang things off and only managed to get 7 of the 8 out.  The last R/H upper nut is a bear being hard to get to.  Not quite sure what I will do, but I'll think of something.  Found fairly bad rust holes in the corners of the floor panels.  It feels good to being the project...

Just dropped it off for MOT!
Garage loves Mini's as I parked up next to a supercharged VTEC conversion Mini.
Fingers crossed!
