Took delivery of a new brake servo. Had a bit of a nasty experience the other night on the way home from a pub meal when the brakes went a bit strange. Checked the fluid level the next morning and it was empty :ohno: Went round all the cylinders and pipes with no sign of a leak - pulled the vac pipe off the manifold and brake fluid dripped out, probably the cause of the slight burny exhaust smell I get with the windows open. New servo to be fitted tomorrow.

Change the master cylinder too, had this on our 88 998 Mayfair
Dohhhhh, what an idiot I am :shy: What you said is of course true - where else would the fluid come from except the master cylinder, I was thinking remote servos not the type fitted to late Minis like mine O_O
Took the old servo off

A bit damp in there

This is about half of what came out

The master cylinder is weeping ever so slightly at the back seal but I'll need to move the car around tomorrow and will order a new master next week

OOOOO shiny :mrcool:

Isn't the bottom fixing nut interesting to get back on :mmkay:
We had an issue where the car would drain the reservoir but if I filled it back up the pedal is still perfect, the servo was dry the cap was changed a few times.

We never did find the issue but replaced the master cylinder with a new one and it's been perfect since

Sounds familiar, new one should be arriving today.

Parcel arrived at 12 o' clock. New brake master fitted and all working as it should :proud:

The old one had started dribbling out of the rear seal again and the car hasn't moved since I fitted the new servo, except for a quick test drive - now lets see if the burny exhaust smell has gone

Did you drain the servo? Did you test the one way valve on the vacuum line?

Fitted a new servo as the old one looked very grotty and gave the vac pie a suck and a blow - tasty brake fluid :X

Drove 10 miles round trip to get ice cream to go with our rhubarb crumble! We had custard inthe cupboard, but I honestly didn’t mind going out for the ice cream.

Let my 20 year old daughter drive the Mini on a private drive for the first time. Up until now she has only ever driven the Fiat 500, Galaxy and her driving instructors small car.

"Dad, I now totally get what it's all about".

:D
