the seals on my driver dooe seem fine, they all butt upto the window so i ent got a clue where the ater is coming from, but there is a loud sloshing sound when shutting the door, i dread to think what the insude looks like.
i imagine the correct way to solve it is to drill holes under the door so it can trickle out the bottom, but surely i will be creating a spot for rust to start.
plus if i drill holes wouldnt the wated leak onto the door seals then?
any ideas how to solve?? especially with all this rain were having?
minis eh......who's have 'em!!!

The doors should have drain holes in them already. The seals at the top aren't supposed to stop water, the whole idea is that water runs down the inside of the doors, drains out of the drain holes (which are oustide the seals when the door is closed), over the sills and far far away.

Chances are your drain holes are blocked - usually happens over the years because of rust/dirt/flaky paint etc. Open your doors and have a look underneath, you should see three holes which'll need unblocking. That should solve the problems.

cheers for the help, but ive looked and there are no holes, i ive got a funny feeling the bloke who had it sprayed before me may have filled 'em and sprayed over it, may require new holes??
doesnt this whole water in the door thing affect central locking, if i had it?

chances are he's filled them then, they're a crucial part if you want your door frames and skins to last any length of time.

Get them drilled out (about 8mm i think, maybe a bit bigger) and you should be fine.

It won't affect a central locking solenoid if you have the holes, as water will go in and drain straight out. But i would affect one if there were no holes and the doors filled up with water. Electrical components don't take well to complete immersion!

i'll get cracking with that tomorrow then, if i drill 'em is it worth wanging some hammerite in the holes, rust prevention and all that?

why not - might be worth while taking your door cards off too, after you've drilled the holes, and using a spoke/bit of thick wire/skewer etc to poke any C**p in the door out through the holes.

Then use some paint to cover any bare metal where you've drilled, and might be an idea to spray some waxoyl (aerosol based) - or even some WD40 - into the doors just to help prevent anymore corrosion.

Be careful when drilling too - if the doors have water in them then it could cascade out all over your drill as you break through - so make sure you don't get electrocuted, go steady.

Jammy - yes it is getting a bit scary! Stop following me!

Wouldn't easy access be gained by taking the door cards out?

Rubbish.

Ok - i'll rephrase that:

the seal strips aren't designed to be 100% weatherproof - a bit of water will always get down inside the doors, so thats why the drainage holes are there, to let water out that accumulates in the doors.
