can anyone help?

my car is a 1992 1275 carb and i need a new frount subframe.

can i fit an earlier style front subframe (single bolt) to my car?

when i went to look at prices for subframes the catalouge says that they changed in 1992.

would i be right in thinking the only difference was that the engine was moved further forward for the injection stuff or was there another reason?

if one will go on will i need any other different parts?

any help will be greatly appretiated.

thanks
andy

You will need to change the gearbox steady bar and gear selector rod as well as the engine steadies (top and bottom) if you change to the different design of subframe.

i wouldn't have thought it'd make that much difference to the selector rods/engine steadys to be honest....i've got a 91 carb car thats got an injection subby (cheers rover) it's just had plates welded over the usual mount holes and new ones drilled about 6mm further forward. i only noticed by accident when i was under the car re-fitting the engine. always wondered why my dizzy was so close to the grille.

Of course it will make a difference to the steadies and gearbox selector. The engine is 12mm further forward (not 6). This will be pulling the gear selector cotton reel mounts forward all the time and putting them under increased load. They will fail earlier and the gear selector will fall off the bottom of the car one day.
And the steadies will always be holding the engine at the wrong angle putting extra load on all the mounting points there too which will also fail early. Rover changed the length of all these bars when they changed the subframe, and even people who make ultimate engine steadies make different length bars for injection cars.
