Hi, I've found a pretty good looking mini for my first car although it has a few problems.
First of all the indicators (and so the hazard lights) are a bit erratic. Half the time they don't seem to work. We have no idea why this is, and have checked the fuse box which seems fine. We dont think it can be problems with the bulbs as all the indicators have the problem so its probably central. Also the relay has recently been replaced.

Secondly, the choke seems to be broken and does not fix out properly. Also when it is pushed back in it doesn't seem to move the wire going to the carberetta properly so at the carberatte end the choke is effectively still out. We're not sure how easily this could be fixed and would welcome any ideas about costs or how simple the problem could be.

Thanks very much for helping,
Daniel

how to change a choke cable

Remove the air cleaner assembly to allow access. Detach the clip securing the choke cable to the abutment bracket, then slacken the clearing screw at the cable trunnion and disconnect the cable from the carburettor.

Working inside the car, remove the screws securing the heater assembly under the parcel shelf and lower the heater to gain access to the rear side of the switch panel.

Disconnect the lead from the heater switch. Remove the nuts securing the switch panel and pull the panel forward from the dash. Remove the locking nut and washer securing the choke outer cable to the switch panel. Pull the complete cable assembly through the bulkhead grommet and withdraw it from the switch panel.

Install the new cable in the reverse order of above. Ensure that the cable has 1/16 in (2 mm) free movement before it starts to pull on the fast idle cam lever.

don't know if this will help?

Mini 4 Fuse Box Layout

Fuse between 1&2 -- stoplights, reversing lights, indicator flasher unit, heated rear window. Only working when key switch is on position II.

Fuse between 3&4 -- horn, hazard indicators, and brake failure light. These work all the time.

Fuse between 5&6 -- heater/wipers - these work on position I or II

Fuse between 7&8 -- side and taillights work all the time.

hmm... thats a bit odd. If the hazard lights and the indicators are on seperate fuses then it cant be the fuse thats the problem. It could still be the earth wires though? Would both the indicators and the hazard lights use the same earth?

Also just to check about the choke problem again, how likely is it that it could be a problem with the carberatta rather than just with the choke mechanism itself?
How expensive would it be to fix the carberetta?

Thanks for all the help
