I priced all of the above up to cost around £4,000 without the body work cost or cost of the car originally.

So over to you guys - is it worth more than the £3,750 AF set it at, as they now want a valuation from a qualified automotive engineer and assessor!!

Wilson ;D

Based on all that and compared to what they have given me for mine, i'd say 5k.

So can anyone give me some avice as to why AF are being so difficult about upping my valuation?

Is it wise to mention im part of TMF and threaten them with bad press? As it seems it is very random how they come up with their values.

by the way i'm on a limited mileage classic policy - although I can't see how that should make any difference!!!

The annoying thing is when I renewed the girl was very helpful and said she couldn't see a problem with upping it to £4,500 - so feel a bit like i was shafted on taking out the policy and for another £10 for the valutaion!

Sadly mine is an '88 so less rare - but no reason for a £2,750 difference!! Look slike a controlled strong call is needed in the morning.

Well spoke to them today and the responses we thus:

"We take into account forums and other sites when making our valuations"
"But i have examples of you giving better values to similar cars"
"Well you haven't done enough to the car in the last year to warrant an increase in value"
"so what options do i have then as £3,750 would not replace my car"
"We may consider reviewing it if you get an external valuation, but there is not guarantee they will agree with it"
"but i have given you a full price list based on Mini Spares / Minisport to support my value"
"Well people say they have spent £10k on it but it doesn't mean it's worth that"
"can i speak to a manager or one of the valuers?"
"Sorry, the valuers don't take calls and you have to write a letter of complaint to get a manager to contact you"
"i can't even cancel my policy due to poor service can i?"
"Sorry, your policy is non refundable" (only 3 weeks into it)

So stay away from AF - they really don't seem to care bout calssic / modified cars they they claim to!

whats it worth, well the value to you is proberly more than it is to someone else. the insurance company if they agree a value will gtee to pay you that admount. You could alway put it on ebay and see what it fetches. But make sure you have legal number plates as they can refuse to pay out if the car is not road legal
