Just lob them out prior to paint (although it would still require the twin gutter rail if correct) then again there are soooo many cars like this that took advantage of the Tax exemption. My guess is that non of the 1970 vehicle exists other than the plate.

To the purist this is a huge hurdle but to someone wishing to own an awesome little car then they will overlook the fact (or even acknowledge it) and pay top dollar, many have sold on eBay for what I would consider silly money but in the same breath have seen loads recently for sale at over the 3.5k mark but they remain unsold, to add I have just purchased a genuine 18k MPI cooper in perfect untouched condition for £2250.

Price it right and it will fly off your driveway.

£1.5-£2k realistic, £3k if a buyer has loads of cash and not bothered about a genuine 1970 historic car.

It is a bit strange out there at the moment, modified cars are being hit hard, IVA's/BIVA's/dvla are worrying a lot of people it seems.

As a result standard cars are being more sought after.

Shell changes do seem to be hitting the values hard.

If you get the right buyer then I'd have said around the £2k mark, maybe a little more.

So just to clarify, the only difference between the 1970 shell and the shell i have is the gaps in the gutter rail at the seams? I have read a few things saying the extierior body wasnt changed between these dates, but there was some obvious transformations.

I was woried about the fact that its obviously not standard, and someone was telling me about people selling plates and log books seperate to the car, which is very dodgey but has got me wondering. However from what i can tell its been this way since 2000 or so, as i found a picture of it with these plates on and the flip front back then, so its certainly not a recent thing.

Thanks for all the help, im not planning on selling it just yet, but its nice to know what the value of my work was.

Theres a load more difference than the gutter rail.

- Twin bolt front subframe

- Gearbox tunnel

-Bulkhead gusset

Its more the exterior visual things im thinking about, just i showd a photo of it to a good friend of mine the other day and he instantly said 'Oh its been reshelled then', and im just curious as to how he could tell so easily, as the photo was just o the priview screen of my DSLR so only a 3" screen.

if i had the money i wold give you 1000-1500 because it does look a bit silly with such wide arches and a play exhaust not trying to be offensive but this is what most people will think who know minis als

As said, the arches are coming off before the respray and being changed for miglia carbon ones, however pretty much everyone running a 13" wheel has to use an arch of this size, so im not sure how you can say people think they look silly when so many people use them.

I see your point about the exhaust, it came with the car and was brand new, so for the moment im keeping it, i might change to something more sensible later on, however im also planning on putting a turbo lump in it aswell so i carnt go too small.

Its ok mate, i apriciate your opinion, just diddnt really agree with the arch comment, but can see where your coming from.

Thats what i thought. I mean at the moment its super tidy mechanical and bodywork wise, it just needs its respray and catches adding then the interior finishing and it will be one of the cleanest mini's i have seen, just it dosnt have the heritige which is a shame! Had i known this i would have tried to sorce a 1770's body to match and restore that, as i have still had to do a massive amount of work on this shell as can be seen in my build thread.

Thanks for that ringonezero, its great to start getting some info together on this mini, as i still know pretty much nothing about it!

I think the gutter mod came in about 1980, there should be a plastic trim round the gutter. Up to 76 there was a drip rail above the door and 3/4 window: a lip along the bottom of the gutter, facing downwards.

You risk being pulled if it's registered as tax exempt.

Would a police officer know the difference though? Its registered as a 1970 on the v5, im assuming the body swap was registerd with VOSA.

unless its been given another logbook and id to make it taxexempt, thus worth more? just an idea.

the police wont know any different, as long as the chassis numbers match up
