Hi all,

Some of you know me some of you don't, so on behalf of those that don't (or don't know what the Mongol Rally is)

I am taking part in the Mongol Rally (http://mongolrally.t...venturists.com/), a 10,000 mile trip from the UK to the capital of Mongolia to raise money for Charity. We are doing the event representing www.theminiforum.co.uk, an international mini forum of over 25,000 members).

The chosen vehicle for this trip is my old trusty 998cc Mini 30 which has taken me to both Italy and Germany raising money for the National Children’s Hospice (NCH) and Macmillan Cancer Support.

As it is so far:

WITH DAY TO DAY UPDATES**

My love of minis and indeed adventure started many years ago. Whilst at Uni I was lucky enough to get my Dad's mini that he had for a few years. The mini bug then caught on in a big way. I became involved in a mini forum (www.theminiforum.co.uk) and slowly learnt a bit more about this great little car and at the same time made some friends along the way.

My first Charity trip in the mini took me to Italy on an organised event called the Italian Job (http://www.italianjob.com/). This was a trip in the north of Italy and took in some of scenes from the great film. I did this trip with my twin brother and we manage to raise 1,000 pounds for the National Children’s Hospital (NCH).About this time I became aware of a Charity event like no other that minis had been taking part in. The trip was called the Mongol Rally. This event sparked my interest and I knew one day I had to take part in the event and in a mini!

I then became more involved in the mini forum and became a staff member. This lead me to assist with organising our own Charity trip which took from Brands Hatch to the mighty Nürburgring. I took part in this trip a total of 4 times and raised money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

In 2006 I had the opportunity to help my cousin move house....from Boston to Seattle, how could I refuse. So off I set and an amazing journey taking in some amazing sights along the way. Adventure by car was definately the way to go.

In 2008 I then sold the mini to make room for a mini I was building. A year went buy and the opportunity to take part in the rally became a reality, work had given me the OK to take the time off to go on the rally. The day I was informed of this I found out my old mini was for sale, it seemed too good to be true so I parted with some of my hard earned cash and a vehicle for the rally was found.

I am raising all I can for the forums unofficial charity so if you can help me with this and give what you can that would be amazing.

Don't you have to use a car less than 10 years old?

Yes you do. If you want to take an old car then you have to make sure you get it out of Mongolia (due to import laws) i.e. drive it back......gulp

Charles Milner, aka Charlie Brown of The Mini Forum, is taking part in the Mongol Rally with his Mini 30 this year. At the Ace Cafe Mods 'n' Mini night on 1 July he auctioned off some items that has been donated to him and raised around £100 towards his target for Macmillan Cancer Support. Charlie would like to thank Haynes, Muc-off, Wizards of NOS, Titan Classics, Turtle Wax, NGK, Halfords, OBP and Sven van der Hart for their donations, the Ace Cafe for hosting the auction and Dan Stokes and the TMf gang for their assistance. Nice shorter drive today. Not without drama though. I've just been stopped by the police for running a level crossing that i thought like others was just flashing to say it was there. No such luck, and right in front of a police car. He was not happy. Licence and passport got taken and a 2500 fine was going to be given until he spotted a drunk on a bike and let me off. Close! Luc so unimpressed. In a cheap hotel now to make up for it. Good nights sleep and a longer drive tomorrow. Mini running much better. Temp was on a quarter for last bit of day. Food them sleep.

If we all do he will hit his target easy
by the way
A friend tried this a few years back in the winter. Sam route but not part of the rally.
He was in a renault 19 and failed with about 500km to the mongolian boarder.

good luck

Coopersmate, Thank you very much. if he get access to get onto The Mini Forum during the rally the support will help keep him going when he gets a tough day or three.

Taken from his mongo page:

18.20, just got to krakow. Had to stop on the way though as terrifying squeak from passenger front wheel! Then i realised it was just a loose fan belt. phew. Found a cheap etap hotel just outside city so going for a wander. See if it's like i remember. Oh been raining and the glove on the dizzy is doing its job and car is running cool. Good afternoon's driving. Oh again, footwell is now a pond. Had to do a bit of bailing out. All good fun

20.33, been wandering round the city and spotted a mongolia rally car. Ran after them and caught up as they did a u turn. found out they needed to got the airport quick so ripped out half my city map. Hope we don't need that bit tomorrow. And saw an italian team's car parked up in center

22.21, wandering back from hotel and saw 3 uk minis drive past. Got back to hotel room and looked outside and they were just parking up. How random! Went down to say hi and they are from just near bristol. More randomness. Great end to a day
