If you need a gearbox for your mini then Guessworks is the company to deal with.

I ordered a rebuilt mini gearbox from Guessworks in June. The first advantage of dealing with Guessworks is the easy ordering through the website and clear information about what to order. Secondly, John is easy to get hold of for an update on your order and will do everything possible to help. Thirdly, Guessworks takes all the hassle out of the process by organising delivery and collection of your old gearbox. Lastly, John charges very reasonable prices for the service he provides.

Again, I would highly recommend Guessworks for a reconditioned or rebuilt mini gearbox.

I have to agree, I had an engine + gearbox built by a member on here a few years ago, it was a total shambles, thereafter I too have used Guessworks for both all my company's engine and gearbox rebuilds.

I echo all your comments.... Rutland Minis totally endorse Guessworks.

Thumbs up from me. I got a few shims for my gearbox build that I was doing myself. John gave advice freely and was very helpful. Good website as well.

Not just for full gearboxes, i needed a different worm and pinion for my speedo (it was showing the wrong speed), used the ratio calculator on the guessworks website, rang just before dinner to ensure they had them in stock they arrived in the morning post the following day.

great company to deal with

just a shame he couldn't drive the 200 odd miles and do the job for me (what a right royal pain in the bum)!! :)

Not only that but he lets me ask him lots of annoying questions about little bits of clutch and slave cylinders etc and is always very helpful and very well priced.

I was going to pm John, but I thought I would acknowledge him publicly. Stand by to be embarrassed John!
In short he reconditioned a gearbox for me end of last year. I got the car running again last week after extensive restoration and the gearbox is absolutely SUPERB.
Thanks John. I can highly recommend him :-)

Hello,

Some days ago we had a problem with a Minispares 5 speed gearbox while trying to change de final drive ratio. John came to rescue on the mini forum, and with this help and advices we finally came to our goal.

Some days later, after some PM's, I ordered and economy drop gear set, a windage tray and his fitting kit, a speedo worm and drive and a useful synchro tool, the items were delivered in only 3 days to my door in France, and the price was more than reasonable assuming that the "used parts" are in perfect condition, super clean, and that the primary gear has been rebushed.

So a big thanks to John for everything.

I can highly recommend Guessworks.

Can only agree with the above - picked my car up yesterday after having work done on the gearbox. While the car was there, he also replaced the clutch & flywheel, fitted a new exhaust manifold and a few other bits & pieces. Car now actually has four gears and reverse without grinding! Brilliant work and John kept me updated throughout with emails telling me what else he'd found that was broken...

To tell the truth, I doubt if you will get a bad word about guessworks from anybody he is a very rare breed HONEST and that now a days is very unusual and also does top grade work at sensible prices.
