Basically what was better, the waxstat or the other kind of jet for the HS4, and if its the other kind, what would it take to fit one to a carb already fitted with a waxstat?

Think general theory is that non stat are better for performance, waxstat economy.
All it takes to convert is two 1p coins
Here's one converted, remove the waxstat unit, replace with 2 coins

wow
Well i do have economy in mind but right now would rather have a working jet that doesnt leak fuel! lol

However i have seen this....now if you google the part number and replace capstat with waxstat it does return as being for a HS4
think its worth it?

Part number for the HS4 waxstat is lzx1111a

the red ends on the waxstat are just protective covers.
BUT
You can't just replace a waxstat jet with a non waxstat theres a conversion kit, the choke assy needs to be altered.
Thats why I converted using the 2 x 1p's

The "cheaper" jet is usually the "solid" jet. WaxStats cost more. The one on eBay may appear cheaper, but you need to make sure it's right for an HS4 as mentioned above. (I think HS6 carbs used jets with .100" through holes while HS4 carbs use jets with .090" through holes... but someone will have to confirm this.)
If you have an HS4 that uses a WaxStat jet, the coin conversion is easy to do. Alternatively, there are adapters that allow you to fit a solid jet to a WaxStat carb. If you have an HS4 that uses the solid jet, you need to stay with a solid jet.

Part number you need is AUE1111,
This is a new conversion jet that replaces the waxstat jet.
Cost is about £20
