if you take the grille off theres a hole behind thats slightly smaller. theres a bit in the corners that hasnt been cut out, the hole will go there

Beware, i had some on my everyday mini when i was 17. i went to undo them one day and they had corroded inside the thread. i ended up taking a set of mole grips to them to get em undone!!! f***ed em right up and promptly stopped using them...

put grease on the threads before you put the buttons on, then they wont corrode

I used two large philips screws, just as quick to remove, and you cant see them either as the head fits in between the slats of the grill... :smartass:

IMHO, the "new" style do look cheap as they press on the slats of the grille using a big rubber washer. The "old" style had a female threaded stem that reached between the slats so the head/knob of the button didn't rest directly on the grille slats.

I lost my original buttons when taking the car out for a test drive... I had left them in that valley behind the bumper and the front panel. I ordered a "new" set from Mini Mania and was very disappointed in what I received. I ended up ordering generic aluminum knobs, chrome plated pipe nipples, and a couple of 5/16-24 bolts. I made my own copies of the original design. I also made some test pieces with smaller heads using table lamp hardware. I never used them... but I carry them in the door pocket of my car just in case I do another bone-head move and drive off carelessly with the buttons resting behind the bumper.
