Ok, Ive a lil list of things Im not happy with. Maybe you lot can probably help me out here.

FIRSTLY and most important.
Today, after a gig, I had a car full of girls, and when I hit the key. the damn thing wouldnt fire up. So I had to get a bunch of me mates from the gig to give me a push.
It did start after a push. But I cant see why it wouldnt start. Its a joke!


SECONDLY, My engine steady is shagged, and now my engine wobbles.
The other day, My foot sliped off the clutch under engine brakeing, and my "Ultimate engine steady" bracket on the bulk head has ripped up out of place. and the steady its self has came out. So ive taken it off. and now when the car is on tick over, the whole car wobbles back and forth as the engine moves.

Will replacing the 2 standard engine steadies sort this?


THIRDLY, My engine splutters and chokes out sometimes under acceleration.
Today I noticed that when I put my foot down in a high gear (3 or 4), Then car splutters, coughs and chokes out. And pretty much looses power. I need to drop down a gear and lower the revs or It will stall.
what could Be causing this.

And FOURTH, The one that just annoys me. :tongue:
My headlights / tail lights have a habbit of "Blinking" every now and then. Its not all the time. Just from time to time. If my head lights are on, mainly when Im sat in traffic or somthing. They will go off for a second and come back on.
They only go off for a VERY short time. Like not even a second. Ive no Idea what is causing it though.

2.yes replace them asap, you could do more damage without them

3.check your dashpot oil in the carb is topped up

4. possibly your alternator? tighten the belt. check the connections for the lights are all nice and clean and well connected.

1. Sounds like either your battery is not holding a charge or you have a fault on your soloniod.

2. The 2 standard ones are better than none at all, you could always make a new mounting point for you ultimate one.

3. Check dashpot oil, it could be a number of things or even the coil, but your best bet is to take it to a rolling road.

4. You probably have either a knackered switch, bad earth or loose wire. Check them all and you will find it.

Ive sorted out the starting thing. ive put a new K&N air filter on it, Its sorted out the bad starting AND the black smoke. So Must of been Running WAY rich. :tongue:


Had a look at the engine steadies today. Ive taken the one off on the left of the engine, And the bolt is actually sheered off in the engine block. :erm:

I didnt do it, It was like that when i took the bolt out. I could undo it with my fingers!

so, Ive re-fitted the ultimate engine steady, and ive kind of made the left hand engine steady work, Ive tightened the bulk head end, and ive bodged the bolt back into the engine. so the engine is "Steady" now!

Is this that screw off thing on the top of the carb?

With the engine steady, it won't be secure at all, if the bolts sheared you'll need to sort it out, you can get 'repair kits' from MiniSpares, it attches the steady via different bolts. I'd seriously recommend getting one. Do you have a steady going from your gearbox to the front of your subframe?

Also, what have you done for the earth strap that goes on that steady?

The steady that goes from the clutch side of the block to the bracket that the master cylinders are mounted on, unless certain models didn't have them?! Not sure about SPis, or MPis?!

mines a 93 carb dunno if should have one or not

mine has no earth strap.

Also, as for the steady what is on the gearbox / subframe, It dont work! :tongue:


Think im gona buy a full polly-bush kit for the steadies, And replace all the rubbers. Tighten them all up etc.

Where else can I mount the one above the flywheel?

Yep, just fill it up with 3in1 oil

All models have the steady from the block to underneath the master cylinders.

Ben - Minispares do a kit which allows you to still use that steady, but it provides a bracket which bolts onto the transfer housing - takes about half an hour to fit if that. If your bolt has sheared then that is the best option (and I think Minipixie may have one of those kits, we didn't use it on hers in the end).

Its the bit that goes between the clutch cover and the block.
