rattling in the gearbox

Right its not a drastic problem but i would like to know if anyone has any ideas. When i pull off in 1st i can hear a rattling, somebody said the idler gear or something but i cant find much about it. Is this a common problem i.e rattles lose or is it my car:( 46k on the clock
any ideas please

Does it rattle when stationary, and when you depress the clutch does the rattle go away... if so, then very likely to be the idler bearing and needs to be replaced urgently, if yo dont you're going to not only loose your idler gear but also your gearbox case, transfer case and probably the rest of the engine.

If not then I'd me more suspicious of main gearbox bearing or diff

I'm not sure how much a mini is effected by this - but the exhaust could be vibrating and hitting on something metal.

no its definatley in the gearbox/engine. It does sometimes do it when im stationary but all the time when im pulling off. Is it an easy job or am i gonna have to pay to get it fixed?

you need to get someone who knows what to listen for to have a look ( well listen ) but just a thought, could you not record the sound ?

going to go for a blown head gasket as another possible as these badys run wasted spark system, advice goto get the car checked out asap else could be expensive times ahead
