Hello folks,

Thought I might as well create a project area for my MK3. I have owned a few mini's in the past but haven't worked on one for some years. It's white with brown rust coloured lower half. I've owned it for about 20 years & used it as a source of parts & a mobile parts store. I got it after a work colleague wrote it off & wanted shot quickly. I looked at restoring it several times but was warned off due to lack of panels & my natural desire not to spend too much money. Now that heritage produce all the rear panels I have a fighting chance of rebuilding it. It may be the rustiest mini going, but when I looked around for an alternative shell there was alot of competition for the rusty crown. So based on that I'm sticking to the original plan. I couldn't justify the cost of a heritage shell but will probably end up with virtually all new panels anyway. I could have just bought another mini but it seems MK3's are getting a bit scarce now & I think I owe it some respect after neglecting it for so long. The intention is to drive it back out in the spring. I'll list the spec. as I go along. Basically a fast road mini with all the bits I couldn't get on a mini 20 years ago! I've dragged it into my workshop for major surgery & have started stripping it down.

It took me a while to find it in the hedge & about an hour to hack my way through to it. Some bits fell off as I was taking pics..!

Jesus Wept!! Thats a very brave project, I take my hat to you if you're gonna restore that.

I'd be tempted to brace(whats left of) the shell before trying to move it.

Good Luck, we need more pictures!!!!

That was my thoughts, just gotta find something to brace too..! It's an odd path of corrosion. Tunnel, floors & roof aren't too bad. Will start there first.

That was my first choice but couldn't justify that price tag. Also where's the challenge..!
I can honestly say that as it folds itself into a rusty ball on the floor when I remove the slightest thing.... I did that..!

Nice idea Shifty. Not really much point. I think they would hand me back a carrier bag of bits. Just gonna clean the odd good bits & slowly attach the new panels in some sort've logical order.

Yeah....Its not so much a strip down, more a pull off with your bare hands!!!

Looking forward to seeing more of this, its good to see that you're not taking the easy option with the re-shell.
