Why not buy a set of downton mirrors and fit them to the standard plastic door mirror stalks like I did. Downton did this in the 90's to their Downton conversions. They cost about £45 for a pair. Oh and you can see out of them as well.
Awesome! This is the BEST method to mount Downton type mirrors. I'd like a pair in brushed aluminium on my car. I wonder if you have detailed pictures on how you managed to do this.

Hey I've been looking at these mirrors from mini delta:
Mini-Delta
They're the style I'm after, but at 80 quid plus 30 for shipping, plus the added risk of up to 135 quid in duty/tax, I was wondering if these alternatives from Moss were any good?
Moss
Anyone with pictures of these Moss type fitted could you post them up please? I cant see any difference in design, although I know the MINI-delta ones are fine to be used on the doors without not being able to see, whereas I dont know anything about the Moss ones. Are they going to rust within a year and leave me feeling cheated, or will they last? I know good chrome is hard to come by...
PS I know they're not exactly Downton styled, but they're close enough and I like this type better.
Mini delta......had a look at this site and as its written in Japanese I obviously really struggled...........is there some way to get an English translation for this site as theres a few good things on there that I would like a bit more info on ...

Can someone please confirm if these Downton style mirrors will mount onto the later black plastic sliding window catches. In a similar fashion to timmy850s setup?
Thanks

I think the car I saw with them was a later pickup, which should have had the plastic catches

Thanks, I have ordered the mirrors and will post up the finished look for anyone else to view, if they wanted the same look with the plastic catches.I can't see why it wouldn't work with the black plastic window catches, I had to enlarge the holes in the chrome catches by a mm or so to get the bolt through. I'd suggest getting a nyloc nut and a domed nut to make it look nicer.

PS - Very nice project build timmy850, looks great!

I have fitted the passenger side mirror to the car which looks ace. The mirror is on full inward tilt but I can't see anything out of it, unless my face is against the glass!
I was thinking of lengthening the 'tilt slot'?
EDIT - I am now planning to buy some MED mirror brackets as I'm a big fan of the race car look!

JamesC - what did you do in the end? I was thinking of mounting through the window, but won't do if it's not easy to make it actually possible to see out of the mirrors! :)
And did you have to drill through the plastic catch...?
